ATI AWI 9600 XT boot problems

Hello all,
I hope someone can help me with this issue. I am stumped.

I have a stable system up and running and receieved the ATI card for Christmas. Go to install it this evening, and I get nothing on boot up. The monitor never 'clicks' on. Even the USB optical mouse won't light up.

I throw my Gainward 4200 in and everything boots up no problem. The issue does not lie with the card as my roommate is currently using it without a single install problem.

Here are my machine specs:

AMD Athlon 2000xp
Gigabyte 7NF-RZ (nForce 2)
512mb Corsair XMS 3200
everything else has been removed..

The motherboard is a budget board. There aren't too many options in the BIOS regarding AGP. I have a feeling that maybe the board is too cheap to support the card. Does this make any sense?

Has anyone had any issues with installing an AIW on a gigabyte board? If so, what methods did you take to resolve it?

Could anyone suggest a board that will be guaranteed to work with the card? I would like to spend < $70 if at all possible.

I'm having the exact same problem with my 9800 Pro AIW... Ti-4200 works fine, and the card works in another rig.

What power supply are you using? I read on ATI's site that they're having "rare" incompatabilities with certain powersupplies. :\
 
Power supply isn't big enough, visit the psu forum and get some advice from our experts :).

I don't believe the problem is caused from a lack of power. I have an Antec trupower 430W power supply in my system, as does my roommate.

I think the issue likes somewhere with the motherboard. It would seem like the AGP slot doesn't pump through enough juice.
 
Try your friend's gpu in your computer if it doesn't work try the psu in her comp and if it doesn't work then toss the psu but if it does work toss your motherboard (problem solved++)
