I've heard for quite a while that ATI has been rather lax in their support or development for opengl in all their generations of cards. I've also heard rumors (unsubstantiated) that they are almost ready to release a much more robust set of drivers that are much more agressive regarding opengl games. Since I'm not a programmer or do any coding, what are the chances that they can do one of Nvidia's famous last minute driver enhancements and pull some amazing increase in performance 'out of their hat' so to speak?

I feel a flame war coming on... I can hear it now: X800 SUXORX LOL!!! 6800S OWN DOOMS 3 LOL!!

X800 SUX0RZ IN D00m3 HAHAHAHAHAHA 6800 ROOLZ!

I think they'll be able to get the performance up but how much is anyones guess.

they have been making the Fire GL line of cards for years. I am sure they have a good idea how OpenGL works. The fire GL is simillar to the Quaddro in the fact they use their commercial cores as the workstation cores with a higher level of quality control.

The Quadro has been almost always won against the FireGL in every benchmark. Usually the low end nVidia card (read less expensive) beats or meets the high end of ATI.

Again proving the point that ATI's OpenGL drivers arent very well developed... But hey on the bright side of things when and if ATI comes out with better OpenGL drivers we get better performance in Doom 3 and CAD programs(or w/e u use FireGLs for).
