ATI and Nvidia streched too thin?

Nvidia and ATI seem to be trying to have too many products out at the same time. Last gen ATI had problems with supplies. Now that Nvidia and ATI they are making chips for 2 Xbox's and 2 Playstation's as well as chips all the way back to GeForce2 and TNT days can they really keep up with all the product lines? They even have to keep up with chipsets as well and Nvidia has several lines of those. If they keep releasing new video cards so fast they will eventually be stretched so thin that product will take months to come out after an announcement.

This cant be good for us if they arent able to produce due to supply problems like when the X series Radeons came out and everyone that wanted one had to pay out the as and well over MSRP for one. I think that will become the norm if these companies cant simplify their product lines and get rid of older crap that very few people want.

i share your concerns. i hate it when they tell you about a big release but yet none are hard to find on the shelves or pay out the ass to get one. maybe they are biting off more then they can chew. lets hope not.
 
you're probably right, between Xbox 360, PlayStation3, dual PCIe mobos & other new mobo products (southbridges with new features), new videocards, refining drivers for SLI / Crossfire, etc...

They are probably both stretched very thin.

I think that is why ATi is releasing R520 in October.
 
I think the biggest problem the future holds is price points. Already for a gaming card the BFG ULTRA 512mb Around $850.00. I think games are going to get more and more GPU needy and in a few years be paying 500-700 for an average card. Phase out the old junk I agree. I have a geforce 4 MX that have on my self I just laugh at. Times have moved past that. To me it seems like ATI's card have a higher price point (besides the BFG 512 OC ultra). I was going to make the switch over to ati but seemed to cost a little more to me.
One thing to me though is the Asus 6800ultra beats the bfg tech 6800 512 ultra in almost every single test.
