ATI and NVIDIA operating temps and watts

How much cooler can I expect an x800 vanilla to be in comparison to, lets say, a 6800? How drastic are the power requirements and whatnot?
 
Lets hope the stop the myth about NVIDIA cards being more significantly more "powerhogs" than ATi cards

I personally still do think a majority of NVidia cards consume more electricity in general. Its near impossible to accurately measure power, even with the same manufacturer and the same board. IE: Anyone with a Radeon 9700 will tell you how powerhungry and hot the Revision1 board&chips got (sometimes to the point of melting the mobo AGP components) and how the Revision2 board&chips was much cooler (and overclocked better too)

Reference boards from Nvidia may act similarily to ATi in power, but i find the vast majority of third party board vendors *have* to use extra power as they either don't get the reference chips, or need to add more power and cooling for extra headroom, or risk graphical glitches or early capacitor burnouts. Some of ATi's boardmakers can get away with scrimping a bit (not that they should) on power and cooling and still have it run at stock speeds without problems.

Edit: Its just like powersupplies, mostly it has to do with the quality of the capacitors and how much you are willing to spend on power conversion efficiency. Spend $10 more on components, and you can get an 80 percent efficient powersupply. Spend the "normal" amount and you get a 68 percent efficient powersupply. Scrimp $10 and get a 60 percent efficient powersupply. I get the feeling that ATi does not need to use the expensive stuff, but can at any time to gain an edge over Nvidia (but there is no need to right now)
