I am getting ready to go with dual graphics,, i have a x1950xtx 512mb DDR4, and gettting ready to put in a second one
should i go with a aftermarket cooler for these and if so what does everyone recommend that will fit it??
how much of a difference will i notice with the dual cards
i play Microsoft Flight Sim X and cannot turn all the graphics up,, close but not all the way, will i get there with 2 cards?

With two x1950's i'd say you should be able to push it to where you need. I wouldn't go aftermarket on the coolers b/c they are identical to the AC Silencer's and you can't get much more efficient that for air cooling. Save your money.

The Microcenter by me has MS Flight Sim. X setup on a rig with a x1900xtx and it crawls like molasses, so everyone is suffering I think.
 
ok, next question is,, my card at idle is around 62 C---and when i play it goes up to around 76C,, and when playing Flight Sim X for about an hour it locks my system up,,
i have the ati overdrive at 695/1071,, should i drop that down or?
i have 1--120mm fan in back of case---1--80mm in top, and 2--80mm in front,,
i have the option to put another fan 80mm in the side case
how should i position these fans to blow to get best cooling in my case,,,
would using that side case fan disrupt airflow

Try running it @ stock speeds to see if overclocking is the problem. If not, it could be the game (check for any patches) or your power supply. 60C idle is normal for the x1k ATI cards - same for your load temp. My x1800xt idles at 55C.

As far as fans go, make sure there is an equal intake/outtake of air, 2 x 80mm's for intake versus 1 x 120mm and an 1 x 80mm for outtake could off balance the process. The side intake would definitely the air flow to the video card (depending on its position).
 
My x1950xtx idles at around the low 60's to low 70's and load is around 85*C and my clocks are 695/1098 with overdrive. So not sure but then again I haven't played Flight Simulator X only the demo which was frustrating.
