i have a AMD 2000+ , 512mb ram, Ati radeon 9600 np
far cry is running with a lot of glitches on my pc.
is my vid. card slow or i am short of ram

What motherboard, what type of ram? What are your settings for resolution, details and anything else in the game?

Far Cry has an anisotropic filtering glitch with ATI. Either turn aniso off or to application preference in Direct3d. Don't turn texture filtering in game to very high, turn to high (is actually aniso I believe).

Should work fine after that!

They say to only use the 3.9's. With the 4.1's I have some glitches in the rocks.

They also say to use only 53.03's for nVidia, but they suck for my G4 on my second machine. So Im using the 45.23's, and they are very very dark, and have some bad graphical errors. Still playable though.

Ram will not help video "glitches", unless you mean lagging with bad frames.

Hehe. CryTek recommends a 9800 or higher video card, yet they don't support ATI completely in the demo :)

My 9800XT w/ 4.1 Cats has not had a single issue though. So it appears to be a mix of hardware that causes problems.

For those who have played through the demo lots (like me), I recommend browsing the farcry-game.com forums. They have all kinds of mods of the demo, included the addition of a Humvee and Glider. All weapons, god mode, water-reflection fix, go anywhere without dying .. all types of stuff.

I've seen a few "glitches" as well (running a 5900nu), but it's not restricted to rocks. I've seen plants and trees move as well. Basically I'll be walking along and when I get closer to something all of a sudden it seems to move a bit.
The game adjusts the level of detail based on your distance from a given object, so I'm thinking I'm probably just seeing these transitions. The funny thing is I can never remember what was different about it before.
On the up side, at least it's better than what Morrowind does. That engine renders everything in range at full detail as best I can tell. Really eats your graphics card too. It's really an amazing difference. Far Cry looks better, lets you see farther, and runs faster.
I'd expect you might get occasional slowdowns or chop with 512MB ram. I've checked it a couple times and it was using about 460MB.

what a shitty game engine if it only works on a certain set of cards using certain settings.

I dont recall seeing the 9800 being a requirment, or that they dont support ATI. Link?

I think it just needs work. A lot of ATI users have been having trouble w/ certain settings. I've got a 5900nu, and I've got issues as well. It just needs a bit of work. If I were more energetic I'd put my Parhelia back in (Got the 5900 last week, I'm selling it after I make sure everything is working well w/ the new card) and see if it has problems. But I'm f'n lazy, so it's just going on eBay in a week or two once I make sure this 5900 is going to work alright for a few months (until the NV40 & R430 come out)

wtf, my friends are getting 30 fps in 1024*768*32 same config xcept for fx 5600 non ultra, I have a 9600 pro which i believe is much faster.
Also I read in the guru3d forums, that the game is nv optimised, I did notice a lot of cgl system files in the folders.

Also I have read in the rage3d forums that the game forces PS 1.4 in nv cards, hence they run faster, is that true ?

How come no one has any issue with the game ?

I am getting around 7 fps in 1024*768*32. And i am able to just play at 640*480 everything turned off, it gives me around 30 fps!!! I am using CAT 4.1

Yall need to stop talking out of your ass. The game supports ati cards it just has a small glitch concerning aniso filtering. Geez, I have a 9600np and it runs extremely well. a 9800 will own this game (hallelujah!). However a recent game called X2 which I love so dear seems to have major problems with ATI. Basically, X2 runs half as well as Far Cry and looks half as good.

Ha you think ATI are the only ones with probz in FarCry try this switch if you own an ATI card?Turn your Radeon into a geforce FX
\g_maxfps 15: (ATI cards only) simulate the game running on GeForce FX hardware

Maxfps 15 lmfao:D :D :D :D

Actually I can't get my 5900nu to run at 15fps. Every time I try to turn the settings up too high the game crashes or wigs out. The slowest I can get it to go is maybe 25fps. After that wierd stuff happens... won't load, technicolor slideshow, slideshow sans bulb (ie- blank black screen)

I wouldn't sweat ansio too much... just turn the environment detail up to high so the grass shows up. It looks much better than textured polygons no matter how much AF you throw at them.

This game is actually KICK ASS.

I am sure its just a matter of time before the few errors will be fixed.

I have to admit I don't know anything about the game, haven't played it. But it sounds like it's got a lot of bugs.

Read my post again. I didn't say a 9800 was a requirement, nor did I say they official said they don't support ATI. *mega-blink*

No. It doesn't support the latest (3.10 and 4.1) driver sets from ATI. It only supports 3.9 Cats. Therefore, by theory, it (it being the demo, not the game) does not support (updated) ATI cards. The final version will no doubt have a widespread support. This was more of a whipped together demo, they seem to have been aware of the bugs, yet released anyway (hence on the requirement page "must have ATI 3.9 cat" and "Nvidia Forceware 53"). No-one in this thread outright said it didn't support ATI though.

As I said, the game runs fine for me with Cat's 4.1. Just make sure you have the proper things disabled. I play with very-high, at the highest res, and the reflections fix (10fps drop) and I get a good 32fps -to- 80fps.

Granted, this thing is probably a better benchmark for the overclockers out there. As with my overclock I could do everything for hours (gameplay), just not Prime95. But with this game, it had my system dead within 10minutes. Hehe. I had to drop my OC just to play the thing. I've seen lots of this on the official forums. So if you want to test for ingame stability with an OC, fire this puppy up :)

I have to admit I don't know anything about the game, haven't played it. But it sounds like it's got a lot of bugs.

They modelled/animated/coded grasshoppers, fireflies and dragonfly's into the game. So yes, it does have a lot of bugs :)

Maybe you should read it again;

I simply asked for a link that says they recommend a 9800 or higher. And where they say they dont completly support ATi in the demo.

So again, link?

The demo is clearly unfinished (no AA/aniso). It also clearly needs 1 GB of system RAM to run smoothly.

but this game is THE reason to upgrade my video card. I was waitinf for DOOM 3 (and I still am)...but if this game comes out I will get another card, it's that good.

btw, I'm overclocking my G4400-->4600 and I was able to run it at 'medium' global settings (and even high texture settings all else medium) and had very good gameplay.

I'm very aware when the screen hits less than 30fps, i can't play that way...and I didn't feel like that was the case. So I'm one who has had NO problem playing this game with a mediocre vid card (but a haul-ass system, btw; I love Raptor RAID load times).

The surround sound is the unsung hero here, it's simply AMAZING! This really wets my whistle for what doom 3 has in store with it's 5.1 support! :D

Man, there's a BUNCH of fanboys in here!

I've downloaded the 450mb file and will check it out tonight. I'm especially interested in someone mentioning above that this really stresses the system above-and-beyond what Prime does. I'm curious to see how my new rig is holding up...

I'm running a 9800P with 4.1 cat, 1.2 celeron, 512 PC133, and the game was very playable for me on high settings. Granted it wasn't the absolute smoothest as my system is a bit outdated, but none the less it was very playable.

I want to see what this game is like in MP, because making noise and throwing rocks to mess with people could be fun.

Ur crazy...how can you possibly say that? It sounds like you've played it...maybe you don't like FPSs?

For you noobs complaining about Far Cry you need to realize it's a beta. There's gonna be bugs. If you can't handle it then go buy a console and play games developed in a closed hardware environment.

As for the Far Cry demo, it absolutely rocks. Recently I thought I'd never find a new game that would hold my interest until I played this. In runs great on my rig with Cat 4.1s when I turn ansio off, so I can't complain. The code seems very clean and I've heard of people with even mediocre machines getting a decent framerate.

The game just needs some shakedown time, and I suspect that they are using your input/information about the problems you are having to track down and fix the bugs prior to final release.

You may recall the UT2K3 demo had bugs and they actually implemented a reporting function into the demo so that you could report back problems. Just give it a little time.

Astounding, I mean abso-fricken-lutely incredible. I've never seen anything like this... The last time I was this "suprised" with the awe of a game was when we all first made that jump from Wolfenstien to Doom.

Yeah, we've had 3D before, but nothing like this. Seriously, if you don't like FPS's, then maybe you don't have to like the game itself, but this engine is nothing short of incredible.

Rig in signature, running 1024x768x32 with all details at "Very High" with exception to the texture filtering which is only at "high" per someone's suggestion here in this thread. No frame rate counter, but it's smoother running than Halo (which typically does 60+ on this rig)

I WILL purchase this game, if only for the single player aspect. I'm still having trouble with the words, but phenominal comes to mind.

The graphics are gorgeous, ill admit...but the control seems terrible...you jump and it feels like you are floating.

OK, but do you like the GAMEPLAY?

So this just means that the graphics are good? You need to say the graphics are good, not the entire demo.

Hi, quoting above because it more references my response. I quite like the gameplay, it's tight and indeed, as I've read elsewhere, it plays to me like Quake 3; which is great imho.

I love the gameplay, the AI does incredible things, the physics is ground breaking (compared to anything on the market); and the battles themselves are hella fun.

A MUST-HAVE MUST PURCHASE game if ever there was one, and it came as a complete surprise.

I agree with many here, i haven't had this excitement or feeling about a single-player game for years!

as others have said its only a demo...the game has not gone gold yet or anything so give it time, there are bound to be problems at this stage, i am sure they will be fixed by the developers of the game and the writers of the drivers for each set of gfx cards. Using my system i managed to play it just fine with all details set to v. high. Though running it at 1600x1200 caused it to be seriously slow. At 1280x1024 it was just fine tho.
