ATI/AMD Driver Problems

I posted this about getting a new hard drive and the cloning did not go right so I decided to reinstall W7
Anyway I am having a problem with the drivers now
I can install the drivers fine but upon restart the computer just gets hung up on a black screen. I have to go into safe mode and remove the driver so I can boot up to the desktop again
I have tried the newest driver 12.10 and the version 11.9 either driver produces the same result
The card is an HD5450
I am using the DVI & HDMI outputs
DVI - Asus VH236H
HDMI - Onkyo TX-NR609 for audio & Video
I have Windows 7 Home Premium X64
Is there a solution out there that I don't know about?

I've seen bad cables cause problems like this. What happens when you only use the monitor with the DVI output, and not use the HDMI receiver?

Yea I really wish they would change how this works. I’ve been asking for years. I also have an Onkyo receiver hooked up and two TVs hooked up to it and everything gets all messed up when someone turns on one of the TVs or the receiver. Even though that input is not even selected the AMD driver trys to move the desktop to the TV. Then once you get back the way you want it will do it again when you turn the TV off. ARGG!

Even when I just want to turn off the displays as I’m used to it rearranges the desktop and all the icons. I know you can use the power saver function but I’d rather just be able to turn them off when I’m done for the day.

Anyway, I have set up some presets in the AMD driver or CCC and that has made this (in general) easier to deal with. Just be sure you have all the setting the way you want them and that you use the standard and no the advanced mode when creating the preset. They broke that a few years back and have not fixed it. When in advanced mode it will not create a proper or complete preset. Once you some presets configured you can use a keyboard shortcut to get the display you want back on when driver try’s to use the wrong display or the wrong resolution.

I keep my computer on all of the time but not the receiver and when ever I turn the Onkyo on the computer screen will flash (Even though it is connected directly to the video card and not through the receiver)
