Why does it say 411mhz on the overdrive level bar thing. Im thinking that is the core speed, but isnt the core suppost to be at 412mhz on a 9800xt?

412 is the clock, but the actual clock is reported as like 411.56 or so depending on your specific card.

Now now, post counts have nothing to do with ones knowledge (or lack thereof). Plz refrain from using that against people.

To chuckm1020, it IS 412 but like it was already said.....the card uses certain increments when it raises the clock speeds, and it's almost never EXACTLY a certain speed. Don't worry about it, my 9800XT is the same way.

Oh and on a side note, don't bother actually using Overdrive for anything.....the "gains" you're going to see in games will be next to nothing. It's nothing to celebrate over (overdrive).....just another toy to play with.

What do you use to step up your speeds? What do you recommend using, ATiTool, powerstrip etc?

I use Radlinker to do it manually 'cus it just incorporates itself into the ATI control panel as another extra tab. ATITool is very usefull for the guy (most NORMAL people) that don't want to sit around all day to get things right.

Come on guys, he paid for a 412mhz card. the card is 411mhz. He should, at the very least, return the card. Personally, I would consider a lawsuit.

this is normal nothing to worry about. Use something like CPU-Z to check ur CPU i certain that it would read different to what you think are running/have set it to run. These descrepencies are normal...as long as they are within a few MHz i would not be concerned at all...

maybe the card is at 412 mhz and the software is reading it wrong

Come on you guys, you can't POSSIBLY be serious can you??? Listen, nobody has a 9800XT that is 412MHz right out of the box, it just doesn't work that way. It's because they use increments (like I already said) to raise the clock speeds (kinda like a multiplier) and 412MHz is one of those numbers that it almost never lands on DEAD ON. I would seriously hope that a couple of you are just joking around here 'cus you're WAY off. I'd really like to see a lawsuit about that, and how long it takes for ATI to take you seriously and stop laughing their asses off. The software isn't reading it wrong at all.....that's just what it IS.

I'm glad Syphon Filter came out and said this 'cus it's the exact same thing. I can load up CPU-Z when my cpu is at stock clock and what do i see??? 2598MHz. ;) While the cpu clock flucuates during use, the video card clock does not.....but those are two very similar cases. I'd really like to see someone try and sue intel 'cus their 2.6C was booting at 2598.9MHz.

No hard feelings here, I'm just trying to set this straight, 'cus it sounds like there's a few of you that might be slightly confused.

Its perfectly OK to complain about that one mhz IMHO....

but ONLY if you can see the 0.243% difference in clock cycles reflected in performance.

Exactly...i could not have put it better myself...guy you need to understand how the hardware works before you start bitching about this and that...IMO it was a totally reasonable question which has been answered. All the guys saying that he shud take it back and take em to court etc have to be joking surely...

thanxs for your responces. i would of never took the card back for 1mhz. i just wanted to know why out of curiosity:D
