ATI 9700 problems

I have an older rig with the ATI 9700 Graphics card with a Abit kg7 motherboard along with an athlon 1300 cpu. The computer is not overclocked neither is the graphics card. I have a few fans in there that keep it cool enough.

I have the latest drivers 4.9 i believe. When im playing Battlefield 1942 over the internet after about 20 minutes (give or take because sometimes its more or less) the game just freezes. Wait less then a minute and im able to use the computer. Although sometimes i loose connectivity with my monitor. I need to restart and do everything all over again. I've tryed different drivers. Omega drivers, 4.8, and 4.7. Seems that 4.7 works the longest, but that one also dies out in less than 30 minutes.

What could be wrong? is my graphics card going south?

Make sure you have airflow for you 9700. They tend to run hot and need good cooling. Also try rolling back the drivers to a set that worked.

The problem is that the driver set that worked before doesnt work anymore.

What kind of power supply do you have?

I think its a 300 watt power supply

Hmmm, ya got fans in there 'an all, but is your rig clean? Fan blades and heat sinks dust free? What about the fan on the video card? Perhaps its wearing out and is overheating durring game play?

This sounds an awful lot like what happened to my 9700 Pro. I also play BF1942 and it would lock up after about 20 minutes. I have a 500 Watt PS and plenty of airflow. It got so bad I sent the card back to ATI. About 6 weeks later I got a new card and have not had a problem since. How long have you had the card? I would see if you could send it back to them, you could get a new card out of the deal. Good luck.

It could be your card. Also make sure your fan is still working. My 9700pro fan just went out one day, games started to lock up within 20 minutes. Just put a silencer hsf on it, and problem went away.......

It doesnt do it on any other games just this one. It works fine with Doom 3, never locks up. When i play BF vietnam it messes up. also it does this with Battlefield 1942. Whats the warrenty on one of these cards? I'm pretty sure that my cards warrenty is up. Can i still do the RMA for the 9700 PRO? How do i do it and where do i do it?
