I am upgrading the Video in my HTPC. I am currently running off of the integrated video on the N-force2 mobo, with a custom RGBHV cable into my Mits WS55411 55" RPTV.

I am running BeyondTV 3 and it utilized DirectX 9, so I would like a card that does too. The card I am looking at is the 9600SE. Note: I do not game. AT ALL. For just the PVR functions and whatnot, am I going to miss the extra memory bandwidth at all? I really do not think I will, but figured I would ask, someone may have some insight that I do not.

Should I look at going with the 9600np, or pro? I will be using the DVI->Component Dongle. At $67 shipped from newegg, it really seems like the way to go for me.

Specs of HTPC:

Case: Cooler Master ATX-620C-BX1 ( I love it )
Mobo: Asus Nforce2 board ( forget model )
CPU: Athlon XP 1800+
256MB ( Will throw in another 256 during next upgrade too)
Gyration Ultra GT wireless Mouse and Keyboard
Hauppage PVR-250 tuner.

Thanks!

This has nothing to do with gaming at all: POS card for virtually anything, it would be step back from an onboard IGP, both Beyond and Sage need something like a 5700/ 9600 series card to utilize the DX9 stuff, personally I'd look at getting a 9800Pro since they are getting cheaper and HTPCs general aren't upgraded as much as a desktop system.

you can often find 9600s at or near the same price as an 9600se especially if you go refurbished a 9600 would give you better dx9 performance actually. I wouldnt recommend a 9700 or higher simply because they have a fan

If you're too cheap for a 9600 non-pro, consider the 9550, which is a downclocked version of the 9600 non-pro w/ 128 bandwidth. The 9600SE is quite the plague to society (i call it the "slow edition".

Therefore, here's the pecking order, fastest first
9600xt
9600pro
9600non-pro
9550
9600se
9550se
