I'll try to make this short.

Windows won't detect the card. If I install drivers for it, I get artifacts on the screen and Windows locks up. I tried agp 8 and 4x, both do the same thing. I also tried turning off fast writes, that didn't help either. I've already rma'd the card. The one i got back does the same thing.

I tried it in my new setup, Asus K8V - Athlon 64 3000+ - 1GB Corsair XMS 3200 - Maxtor 80GB SATA. Again, it does the same thing. I tried my GeForce 2 Ti with both motherboards and it works fine, Windows detects it and the drivers work.

I was thinking that it might be my psu. I tried an Enermax 350W, it detected the card, but when I installed the drivers it locked Windows up.

I've probably missed something. Just ask if more info is needed.

Try it in another computer, and try another graphics card in that machine. If the same problems occur go for an RMA, if you went OEM - you pay the price and have to get a new card if your store's warranty is up.
Edit: Fast writes should be enabled on a A64 machine, without it A64's are less stable

I'll have to see if I can try it in another computer, but after trying it in the setup in my sig, and my new setup, neither of them work.

I did try the Geforce 2 in both, and it works.

I bought it retail from Future Shop last August. It stopped working in May. The in store warranty was already up.

Ok, try this - make sure the video drivers have been completely removed and then reinstalled.
To make sure try this handy utility: CATALYST Uninstaller provided by ati:

Then do a complete reinstall of the drivers (AND Direct X)
Worst case senario - clear the motherboard bois and format & reinstall the operating system - this action can fix some of the silliest of things...
As for the Future Shop - well, sorry they wont take it back. Try the manufacturer (heck try future shop - wosrt thing they can say it "no") see if you can rma to the manufacturer.
 
I've tried it with a reinstall of Windows and it still doesn't work. I would rma it again, but the card that they sent back to me didn't work either.

I'm starting to think that it's my Enermax 420W psu that's the problem. I'll try the card again in my other computer with my old Enermax 350W and see what happens.
 
It may be your PSU can't handle it...but I doubt it. 9600's don't use much power at all, hence the lack of the molex connector. The 9600xt's use less power than the 9600's.

If it comes down to it and you have to buy a new card...you could save up a little more than what you paid for that 9600p and get a 9800p (I've seen some as low as $170 now....makes me sick since I paid $147 for my 9600xt and the 9800pros were still almost $300- 3 months ago!)
 
I don't think it's your PSU that's causing problems. It's most likely a dead card and you'll either have to RMA it or put the money down for a new one. :(
 
This is starting to get weird. I tried the card in the computer in my sig, minus the sound card and with an Enermax 350W psu, and it worked. I installed the 4.7 cats and it was running everything without any problems.

So I switched the 350W psu over to my other computer (Asus K8V - A64 3000 - 1gb of Corsair 3200 - Maxtor 80gb Sata - SB Live X-Gamer - Windows XP Pro with SP1) and it didn't work. It's doing the same thing as before.

Maybe it's the sound card? I'm starting to run out of ideas. The card was working in the computer in my sig from August to May, with both the Enermax 350 and 420w psu's. It was only after my computer was infected with the sasser worm and i reinstalled Windows that the card didn't work.

This is getting annoying. First it works, then it doesn't, then it does, then it doesn't again. I'm going to pull the sound card and see if that does anything.

Edit: I tried it without the sound card and it still doesn't work. I guess I just got lucky that it worked in my other computer.
 
I moved the Enermax 420W over to the computer in my sig, and the card didn't work again. So i installed my GeForce 2 in that computer, and it didn't work either. It was working in that comp with the 420W psu before.

So now i'm out of ideas. Any chance that my Windows cd could have something wrong with it?

I'm going to see if i can try the 9600 in another computer.
