ATI 9600 128mb

my friend is having problems with his ati 9600....he is not getting the fps he should be...he has a amd xp2000+ with 1.5gigs pc2100.....he is about 50-100 fps less than he should be..
he has reinstalled windows and the newest drivers...does anyone know what the problem is?

please help

I usually use quake 3 for a benchmark. Traditionally with previous vid cards i could pull 200-300fps easy (GeForce FX ti4200) however, the vid card broke and i had to trade it in...the only card available at the time that was of even value was the ATI Radeon 9600. So i bought that and have correctly installed my drivers, etc and i only pull ~100fps.

System Specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1.5g DDR pc2100 Ram
ATI radeon 9600


Theres no way i could have driver conflicts (from my previous nvidia) because i completley formatted my HDD. There should be nothing related to nvidia on my hdd. My best guess would probably be that i do not have some settings right or maybe theres an ATI driver that i am missing out on,im really not for sure. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if your relying on quake 3.. i know theres a switch some where you have to flip to make it show more than 100fps... but.. i could also see this card only doing 100fps if you got a 64bit bus version...(i know there was a cripeled ver. of this crad out there.. i just dont remeber if it was cripeled for 256bit to 128... or all the way down to 64...) can you get us the make and model # off the card just to be shure???

the 9600 line is from fastest to slowest

9600XT 256MB 128bit

now what one does you friend have

I have the 256MB pro and never had any problems with it and I play all sorts of PC games.

could it be that you have both aa and af turned all the way up in the setting menu... that might be enought to drag that card down that low... other wise...if you just formatted.. you dont stand to loose much.. go ahead and format again...

its odd.. on my old pc i used to have to format 2 or 3 times befor i stated getting the performance out of the box i expected, i dont change the install process... so you would think i would always get the same performance...but not the case..

uhh... (wild shot) try reseating the card???
