ATi 5850 idling hot

Hi All.

I'm running two Gigabyte 5850s (OC edition) in Xfire on a X58 UD3R

The top card is running really hot (48 Degrees) at idle and BFBC2 is crashing on me with settings at max.

I havent measured the temps when the gpu is under load so im not 100% sure its heat thats at fault. (or even how hot it gets under load)

My concern is that the second card is sitting millimetres from the first and the heat distribution is lousy.

Any solutions?
 
I was under the impression that idle clocks on the top 5850 in xfire are higher (this may only be if you have >1 monitor connected), and at those clocks 48oC is a good temperature.

Regardless, you should get MSI afterburner, with which you can both look at the load temps (of both gpus i believe) during BFBC2, and also force the fan speed to 100% to see if temps are the culprit of the crash.

edit: If ur computer is hard locking in BFBC2, GPUZ may be better for temp monitoring, since it can easily log to file.

you can manually boost the fan speed if you dont like it, but thats not an unusual idle temp as far as i know. you might try shooting an email to manufacturer to see if they'd have you swap out the card.
