I'm getting a new proc. for the system listed in my sig, I was gonna get a barton 2500, but I heard the mobiles overclock real easy? Just wanted to make sure that they do fit into the same type of slot as the rest of the athlons, and I can change the FSB and multiplier without any extra cooling or having to unlock anything? so which would be better, the barton 2500 or a mobile 2400/2500?

A mobile 2500+ would be better. They are barton processors that are cherry picked to be able to run the same speed as a normal barton but only at 1.45v instead of 1.65v. Because of that and the fact they have an unlocked multiplier they are very good overclockers. 2.4-2.5Ghz is usually what most people get with them. Some higher but normally rock stable is 2.4Ghz.

In a word, CHEAPER...same chip really, you pay an extra $25 for only a 30mhz increase...and they will basically overclock the same.

yea, and with that $25, u could almost get the Zalman 7000A-AlCu which runs for about 30 bux

I still have yet to see a 2500M beat my 2400M anyway.

EDIT: On air.. lol

I have a Asus A7V8X and was thinking about getting a mobile chip, Im not sure it will work with this motherboard I have looked through the threads and everyone who posts, that has one has a Nforce 2 chipset. Also went to Asus site and it does not mention anything about Mobile support. Anyone know if it will work?

Yes, it will work fine. The mobile is physically the same as the desktop version.

The 2600-M is a marked improvement, stock is 2.0GHz at 1.45v

Mine does 2.7GHz prime stable at 1.85vcore on air.

It gets into windows at 2.8GHz with 1.9vcore, probably 1.95 or 2.0v prime stable. Need better PSU first.

Don't you hate it when you've identied that crap part that hinders or bottlenecks your overclocking efforts on that newish rig you have and you get that sudden itch to upgrade that part and it always ends up costing a shrimpin boatload of cash for a minimal performance gain? (breathe)
