What kind of performance can I expect out of an Athlon XP 2700+, 512MB ram, and a 6600GT AGP? Could I play, for instance, Tribes Vengeance or HL2 at 16x12/highest/noAA/noAF?

You could play at that. But I would not recommend it. :p

Man even with the best of CPUs, 1600x1200 on HL2 is tough for a 6600GT. If you went for 1280 it would do it for sure. The lack of video ram (128mb) hampers the 6600GT at high resolutions. It's hard for it to keep track of all those pixels.

It probably could. I think you'd get somewhat low dips even at 800x600 like I do. They aren't really that low but you notice going from 80 to 40 pretty easily. Anyway, 1600x1200 with no aa/af shouldn't really be a problem with a 6600GT. I'd just worry about those dips from the CPU a little.

But you have that x800 pro... the 6600gt should perform quite a bit lower than it.
