Athlon Overheating

I have a Socket A Athlon XP 2400+ which is not over clocked, overheating badly.

Tryed a new heatsink and fan, tryed 3 different types of thermal paste and its still not helping.

Temp rises from 27C at start up and rises steady to 52C.

Anyone got anythoughts.

Setup:
Socket A Athlon XP 2400+ (2Ghz)
ASRock K7S41GX SiS741GX
256MB PC2100 DDR RAM
 
does your hsf have a good tight fit with your core?
temp probe may not be working properly,
 
How's the airflow in your case -- how many fans do you have moving air in and out, and how much air do they push? Is the ambient temperature in the room with the computer very high? Also, try touching the heatsink when the computer is on, if its not warm, then there's little or no conduction of heat from the core.
Unless the ambient in the room with the computer is over 30C, its most likely either a faulty temperature probe, poor airflow in your case, or hsf not seated firmly enough, and heat's not being conducted.
For airflow, might want to consider getting more powerful fans, and look at cable management. A lot of cables in hanging in the middle of the case, especially ribbon cables, will severely restrict airflow.
 
funny thing. im in the same situation as you. a comp i just built for a client, sempron 2600 is overheating badly, although it has been overclocked to 2800+. It is undervolted too, I believe...1.55 instead of 1.65. I have a coolermaster x-dream 2 heatsink too.

It is constantly at 64c :mad: Used arctic silver too! The heatsink is burning hot to the touch!!

thata that i hav alo, i hav burnt my fingures many times on the dam things.

Ihave just the one fan on the HS and its going at 3000RPM 120MM
fan. Side case of also.

Is the Sempron a T-bred or a Palermo? The latter of the two has stock voltage of 1.4V, as opposed to 1.65 on the T-bred.

If the heatsink is hot, then its not because its poorly seated. Not entirely sure what it can be if its not an issue with airflow. One of my friends had this issue with the 2600+ T-bred I'm running now. It would idle just under 60. He upgraded to a 3000+ Barton - he still has high temps, and gave me the 2600+, which now runs full load 46C, OC'ed and overvolted to 1.75, with an SI-97 in my system. I'm taking a look at his system tomorrow, and swapping out his stock hsf for my old one. If I come up with any other ideas when I do that, I'll let you know.

i just took a look at the temps on my P3 and its 52C, the duron 1.6Ghz is 51C. Must be the air flow in my room. Feels quite warm in here. Maybe a couple of case fans might help.

Now to fine a 120mm SLIENT fan. Heres the task.
 
So I guess a palamino 1800+ chip running at close to 70c under load is a little hot....
