Athlon Mobile versus Celeron mobile

Hi guys, I am decided on what to buy for a budget gaming system. I have 512 pc200 and a 9700 pro. All I need is a motherboard/cpu combo. $150 is the tops I will go, cheaper is better. I just saw an Athlon Mobile setup that I am very interested in. It is a Mobile 2500+ with motherboard that does 250 bus stable. I plan to run it at 200 bus. I also saw a Karaktu Celeron Mobile 3.2/800 setup for $140. Which one do you think is better, or is there another better deal out there. How well will these perform in gaming and how do they stack up against a 2.8/533 P4 and Athlon 1800/266? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.
 
The Athlon setup will murder the Celeron setup, no question.

The Celeron based stuff would be good for a budget browsing system, downloading box, et cetera.
 
Just curious though, is it worth it to upgrade. I got a Dell 2.8/133 P4 and 2X256 pc3200 from work with a crap motherboard. The system was terribly instable and performed worse than my old Athlon 1800/133. I was told it would perform nicely if I bought a decent $50 motherboard though. However, I sold the 2.8 chip for $100 and bought a $80 Athlon mobile 2500 with Abit Nf7-s ver 2 motherboard that could do 250 bus. I returned the motherboard for $30 and bought a good $20 heatsink. I plan to run it at 12X200. I saved made a lot of money on the deal and the mobile should beat my 2.8/133 by a good amount once overclocked right? How would it stack up against my old 1800.
 
I hate to say that everyone in this thread is wrong, but you are. Mobile celerons are very fast CPUs. In most benchmarks, an overclocked celeron will keep up with it's P4 speed equivalent. A mobile celeron @ 3.2/800FSB will be faster than a 2.8/533FSB CPU.

For example, here is a system I was using:
Shuttle SB65G2
2x 512meg RAM
ATI 9800 pro

with Mobile Celeron 1.5 @ 3.0, I got 6950 3dmark 2k3

with real 3.0C, I got 6780 3d mark 2k3.
 
What would the Amd mobile do? Keep in mind it is $60 cheaper, used, and has a better mobo.
