Im looking to put together a water cooling system for my athlon 64 dream system :D

What would be some recommended parts to use? (pump\resivoir\radiator\waterblocks)

The koolance "300W" waterblock is so easy to use its sickening, with an exos-al it performs nicely and will take you all of about 5 minutes to setup. Or if you wanna stay homebrew they have a 1/2" ID version. I'm thinking of slapping the 1/2" version on this old S478 kit I have and putting it in my system now that I found a nice stable overclock.

Or else just customize a kit from someone like dangerden. The RDX is a sweet block too. Those kits are pretty pretty cheap too, and will probably perform better then off the shelf stuff. Not really any reason to peacemeal out parts unless you wanna scrounge stuff from local junkyards to save even more $$$.

well, as a rule, watercooling questions should be posted in the watercooling section........

my own dream watercooling system, for straight up watercooling, would have an iwaki MD30RLT pump, a thermochill 120.3 rad, a little river storm G5 CPU waterblock, a SLI configured pair of dangerden NV-68 GPU waterblocks, 5/8" brass fittings all around, and tygon R3603 1/2" tubing. good old T line to fill and bleed it, though. :)

unless you really want me to start foaming at the mouth, don't ask for the rest of the component list.

Lian-Li PCv-2000. Full custom design, Dual M-16's with modders mesh on one side. Dual windows with modders mesh on top. Custom window design with 2 80mm fan holes. Vandal illuminated power button. Bottom design. (still working on the design for this)

I will probably take some of your suggestions and get a storm G5 waterblock, dangerden gpu waterblocks, tygon tubing, and maybe a thermochill 120.3

thermochill rads are some of the best out there.

dangerden sells HWlabs rads, and thermochill rads, and modded 1977 pontiac bonneville heatercores.

of all of those, for quiet cooling, thermochill is arguably the best. the black ice xtreme rads are not very good for quiet, low flow fans. that is where thermochill shines. with something like 3 nexus real silent 120mm fans, the thermocill 120.3 would provide excellet cooling, with hardly any noise at all.

While mine is the complete opposite, with:

An Innovatek HPPS on Power Mode (basically turns the pump into an Eheim 1048) with a silver Aqua Computer Cuplex Pro, a pair of Alphacool NVXP-2's, a Watercool Silentstar HD Dual HDD cooler, both an Innovatek Tank O Matic external and an Aqua Computer Black Aquatube. All cooled by an Innovatek Ultra sized passive rad and a single Black Ice Pro, just in case.

opposite design methodology.

the thing that i like about the bigger is better school of thought, is that once the thing is up and running, it is relatively to test various aspects of the system and adjust it according to the results, to try for a bit more performance.

with the aqua computer and innovatek hardware, some pro engineers sat down and worked out a number of combinations of parts that work very well together, without necessarily having later modifications to the system in mind. that is part of the reason that both companies sell a lot of kits. i simply don't know how well that CPU block would work with hardware from other companies.

at the end of the day, both solutions get the job done, and it comes down to what you like and what is available where you happen to live.

Okay, when you use the water cool HD dual HDD cooler, what good does it do? The motor noise of the hard drive is still there. I can see the logic of water cool CPU / gPU, but why bother w/ HD?

Well, the only reason I go w/ water cooling is that I don't need to hear the noise.

These days, the hard drives all have 5 yr. warranty anyway, so I don't care about the heat gain. So you water cool your hard drive, but you stuck w/ the same noise level?

Depends on what cooler you use. Some are more noise cancelling than others. Besides even if you have a warranty on your HD do you really want it to go down from heat and lose your data? Typically when people H20 cool a HD they are trying to get rid of fans that make noise...no noise = no fan = no air flow over your precious HD. ;)
 
If your HD is cool, the fan is still on at all time, is that so or not?

How's the noise cancelling of Koolance?
 
Didn't understand your first question. :(

The Koolance coolers have zip on noise cancelling. The Aqua Computer AquaDrive gets rid of a lot of noise because the drive is inside an enclosure.

My $0.02 worth. My machine runs at 22C Idle and 35C Loaded. All cooling components fit inside the case I have (one of the reasons I bought it). As well as the 120mm exaust fan on the radiator there is a 120mm intake fan mounted behind the 3.5" Drive bays. Both are low speed/noise units. I needed to replace the original 380W PSU with a bigger 550W unit and the machine flies at 2475MHz (275x9).

My Dream System:

Pump: 1 x Iwaki RD-30 (ultimate) OR 2 x Laing D5's in series (close to RD30, more heat, but quieter)
Reservoir: None (fully closed loop)
Radiator: 2 x ThermoChill PA160.1 with 2 x Tricod Science fans (high performance + quiet), OR 1 x ThermoChill 120.3 with 6 x Noiseblocker fans (3 each side) - again high performance + quiet.
CPU: Storm/G5
GPU: Hydra (but only 1 exists), otherwise Silverprop Fusion HL
Tubing: 7/16" ID (5/8" OD) Tygon stretched over 1/2" OD barbs on everything.
 
I don't have a digital camera but I'll see what I can find. The Antec Sonata case is a short ATX case (it has only 3 x 5.25" external bays). Link here-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129127
They have several good pictures available. One of the big selling points for me is that it has a 120mm exaust fan and a place for a 120mm intake fan positioned on one side of the internal 3.5" bays which sit cross-ways in the case. Both can be low speed/noise and still have good cooling properties.
