I want to slowly start upgrading my system keeping things as cheap as possible and keeping scalability in mind. Im going socket 939, no OCing this time around. Going to go with agp so I dont have to buy a new videocard right away. I plan on using onboard audio as well. Here's what I currently have and what i have in mind as a purchase...
current rig
amd 2500xp @ 3200
abit nf7-s (using onboard audio)
1gb pc3200 ram
radeon 9800np
logitech z-640 speakers
120gb S-ATA 8MB cache
30gb ATA 2MB cache
what Im looking for...
athlon 64 3000 ($150)
abit av8 ($104) (only has 3 audio inputs)?
By keeping the same card and going to athlon 3000 will I see a noticeable difference in my system? I game on my system, but dont care about getting uber FPS in benchmarks, just respectable performance with some eye candy (especially for Battlefield 2). I eventually plan on upgrading the chip to something better (maybe dual core down the road) and the videocard as well.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions on my decision... especially the motherboard, Im not too sure which current mobo's have decent onboard audio. Trying to keep it around $250, $300 at the very very most for the moment.
