ATA DMA Mode In Windows

I can not get my new WD 250 Drive to run in DMA mode in Windows XP SP2. It will only show PIO mode. My mother board dose not have any updated drivers for the IDE controller. I know it use to work when I had 2 60GB HDD's. The only thing I have chaged was a added a Adaptec ATA 1200A RAID card and now running the 2 60GB HDD in RAID 0. The 250 is connected to primary IDE channel on the MB. Need less to say data transfer is really slow now on my 250 in PIO mode. I am sure its the right cable because I used the one that came with the drive. I have also swaped cables and tried the other IDE channel still have the same problem. No other devices are connected to the channel with the HDD. There is no jumper on the HDD.

XP SP2
ASUS A7A266 Ali chipset.
WD 250GB 5400 ATA RPM

Can someone help me out :confused:
 
No has any ideas :( Well maybe I will try the HDD in other computer and see if it works.
 
Well I dont that will work but I will try. I have tried the HDD in another computer and it show PIO mode only also in Windows. I want WD to send me a new drive NOW!!!!

Also when I remove the HDD from the system it will not loger boot. I installed Windows on the Raid 0 drives.

Since when is it a hard drive maker's fault that your OS and motherboard won't play nicely?
jeez.

I can't believe people nowadays. work out the problem or take it to a computer store, but don't go griping at WD forr something they are not responsible for!

If you installed with all your drives connected Windows might have put the boot info on the 250GB drive, even if you installed to the RAID array.

This is why I always recommend installing windows initially with only the boot drive (drives in a Raid array) installed, and hook up your data drives later.

I have tried the HDD in 3 another computers, same problem. Asus A7A266 Ali Magik, Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe N-Force2, and a Shuttle XPC SIS Chipsets. So I really dont think its a motherboard or software problem.

On the boot issue I was afraid that was issue. It took me forever to figer out how to get the Adptec 1200a card work with Windows XP SP2. You run the windows install from the CD and before it does the first reboot after copy all the files to the HDD you have to take the card out and put into another PCI slot. If you dont do this you will keep getting a blue screen at boot. I forgot the 250 was still pluged in. I guess I will just reload. Nothing is on the raid excpt the OS.

Well I have been in computer repair for 6 years. I hope you not talking about a Best Buy or some other chain store I know poeple who work at places like that. If I cant figer it out I know that they will not beable to either. I just hate have to do this then do that, then jump though this. I finaly get ok you can send it in. I know they are just tring to weed out the Idiots out there and save money. Its like when I call about my Cable modem not working. they made me do all this other stuff and in the end I was right my windows was fine my computer was fine. They sent out a repairman and found the wire from my house to pole was bad. :eek: I just had to let some stress out.
