Hello all,

I recently purchased an 80gb laptop HDD of the forums in hope to use it as an external drive for my desktop. its been a nightmare thus far. I have USB 2.0 and even with both usb cables plugged in I still get the error in dev manager " this device cannot start". I then purchased a DC adapter for it and have to same problem. I''ve come to the conclusion that one of the parts must be bunk. I reallly dont hope its the hdd and want to know if there is an adapter to connect a laptop hard drive ( ATA6 ) to an a regular ol' IDE cable so i can test it.

Also, if anyone has any other advice on how to troubleshoot this problem please let me know.

thanks in advance guys.

Here ya go. $5 + shipping, good store for weird or cheap stuff.

I was about to post that. yeah, geeks has that item (I got three of them for $10 shipped a few months ago). Thats all ya need. Be careful, because the ones I got it was not 100% apparent about the cable orientation. Just read the paper that comes with it and you will be fine.

Must be their greenlight special, its $3 at noon EST.

cool! just oredered from geeks.com. shipping was 7 bucks though

Yeah, but if you ordered multiple items, it wouldn't increment like Newegg's shipping. When I ordered, it was like, $1.50 per unit, plus about the same in shipping. It came to about $10 when it was all said and done.

Hey, that link from PCcables.com had the same thing for $15 shipped..... you still saved $5. ;)
