AT&T has iPhone until 2012

ugh.. that probably means AT&T will be offering crippled/gimped Android phones, instead of the "Google experience" Android phones :( fuckin AT&T. Wish there were better choices up here.

Although this line:
an ongoing California class-action lawsuit filed in 2007 claims that Apple and AT&T illegally exerted a monopoly over iPhone service by telling customers the iPhone's required service contract was two years long when the Apple / AT&T exclusivity deal was actually for five years -- thus requiring buyers to re-up with AT&T for three years (and not, say, T-Mobile) if they wanted to keep using the iPhone.

I find to be a pretty stupid claim. It's not like anybody is forcing people to buy the iPhone. So I'm not sure how that could get anywhere in a lawsuit.

I'm sure people would be even more pissed if they were forced into a 5 year contract to use the iPhone. I dont really get how this makes sense either.

I think the argument is that, since they won't carrier unlock the phone at the end of the contract period, you're still locked into AT&T. Its a fair argument given that unlocks are available for other phones. But CDMA phones don't have unlocks and the major CDMA carriers wont activate phones they dont sell so I can't see them winning.

Correct, but the CDMA phones typically have models that are effectively equivalent for the most part on the other carriers. But you want an iPhone - you have to be on AT&T, unless you want to Jailbreak, so they MIGHT have an argument there.

They are getting the pre plus in a few days. Adds balance to the universe.

Don't get an iPhone, problem solved.

I agree. And I don't get the whole "they won't carrier unlock it" bit either. You bought a product you wanted but you have to pay this specific company for the service. Not much different then buying a cable box that will only work with the local cable co, and not with a satellite cable co

meh.. I want a damn Android phone. But I don't want to pay $500 for it. And screw the Backflip and it's gimped'ness

Is Verizon not a viable alternative? Our Verizon rep is pimping mad discounts for converts from AT&T, so if big red has good coverage in your area switch over and don't look back at American Telephone & Telegraph.

Alaska has 1 national wireless carrier; AT&T.

we have 3 local outfits which offer Android, but only the Incredible. And pricing that is not so competitive.
I've been happy with the service with AT&T, and don't see any reason to switch in that regard.
