You guys prob arent too fussed, but ive finally finished my lcd display program, so now ive got all my stats nicely displayed on an lcd, which id like to say is all snug in the front of my case, but its just dangling out the side cos i havent figured where its gonna mount yet and it needs a molex connector.

you wont mind posting the program for the benefit of the [H]orde, would you? :D

I can if you want, its a few hundred line of really bad VB though, so if anyone wants it pm me your email addy and ill send it you. It will probably only work with this particularlar driver board though, its not a crystalfontz or anything like that.

I should really ask Lperry too, is he cool with using his protein data files to work out points?

What a cool idea!
Pics....pics! :D

Hey, dont have a go at me, the only cam ive got here is the dodgy .4megapixel one on my phone. and my bluetooth dongle is missing, so no pics im afraid.
Code:
Protein: 1321
256pts 77%
Imagine that with a green backlight.

Its not done yet anyway, the top lines gonna Eventually be Protein Number, overall score, and im gonna strobe between either percent complete or points value and time left, once i figure out how to parse the log file without taking up too many cycles :)

Right then,. got the bluettoth working, as i said, phonecam, so ignore the badnes of the pictures

Yeah, so the backlight is off in the last too, and its pretty difficult to read because of picture quality, but you get the idea.

that's awesome dude. how much was that LCD? If it's not too much, I'd get one and run your program.

Now that is pretty! Is that the only thing you have running on the lcd or does it switch with other stuff like winamp, system stats and etc?

Yeah, type of unit -size of unit, and what OS are you using,
and do they come in blue. :D

I like it, it would cool in my empty 3 1/2 bay

That is ... sextastic and on topic!

heheheh :)

Nice work. Details details details! Schematics! code! more PICS!

I have a fairly good parser in perl... want it? You can see some of its output here: http://fold-server.sourceforge.net/screenshots.shtml

It can also (theoretically) be compiled into an .exe. I don't have a windows box with perl on it, though, so I dunno how to get there.

It's pretty fast; on a celeron 400 reading from 38 clients it takes under a second. It'd be fairly easy to convert it to single machine usage.

Sweet mage, if you could email it to keith.j.bailey AT gmail.com. What kind of output can it give? I know a bit of perl, but mainly im looking for average frame time, i can do it by monitoring updates to unitinfo.txt, but that takes at least one unit to update.

As ive said earlier, the code is all custom. Its a parallel LCD Htiachi 44780 with a serial driver board from Milford Instruments. Found it in the bargain bin at work for 99 pence, serial cables cost more than the displays. I got a second one, that i may remove the driver board from and hook it up to the parallel port to use lcdc or something on it. Or i might look into winamp plugin plugin writing, see how difficult it is. Anyone know of anything open source that i can blatantly steal the interface code from?

It's designed for use as a CGI program, but it should be fairly easy for you to modify it to print just plaintext. Just strip out all the HTML related stuff, get it to read dos filenames rather that *nix ones, there ya go :D

Great, looking at it briefly i think im gonna just leave it unchanged and make it output to a file i can read in and get the data every once in a while. But ill have to have a think. At the moment im planning on maybe setting up the second one to display results from my borgs on the LAN here, so the net code might be handy anyway.

oh, for whoever asked its a 2x16 display

awesome job man. Truely [H]DC

I use LCD Smartie to drive a Palm M505 emulating a Matrix Orbital display . While LCD Smartie does have some internal commands to display F@H stats, it can not compair to what Herulach has done. My only thought would be to get someone to write a plugin for LCD Smartie that would parse the logs and unitinfo.txt and be able to display info similar to what Herulach has. Hopefully someone is willing to take up a torch

The [H]orde needs You!

I May have a look at it if anyone wants to paypal me 40 quid for a display :). Its actually got a custom character system too, so ive got a little [H] i can put in. Theres still a few bugs though, like its just suddently crashed now, i think because ive changed work unit.

One wouldn't even need a display to program for LCD Smartie.... just the desire to do so. It has virtual display that shows on the windows desktop.

fair enough, when ive got all the bugs ironed out ill look into it. Glancing at the website it might have to wait until i get back to uni where theres VS .net, i only have 6 here, although a standard .dll may be good enough, in which case i can make a port in about half an hour. GF is coming round tonight though, will look at it tommorow, assuming installing my new car stereo doesnt take too long.

It really doesn't have any net code - it only reads from local files and displays from them. What you could do is have your other machines mount their folding directories on a network drive, and then read the stats off that. It'd be best to have the log.pl run on another machine (rather than your main box) so when you reboot you don't kill all the fah progress. My $.02.
