According to DigiTimes, Asustek is set to launch five versions of the low cost Classmate PC in the second half of this year. The notebook style PCs will be powered by Intel and range in cost from $199 to $549.

Asustek plans to launch five Classmate PCs, to be fitted with 7-inch LCD panels from AU Optronics (AUO) and SSD (solid state disk) drives with memory densities varying from 1GB to 40GB priced at US$199, US$249, US$299, US$399 and US$549, respectively, the Commercial Times reported without naming sources. CPUs and chipsets for the Classmate PCs will come from Intel, the paper added.

In for one. ahaha. Probably make a nice little wardriving machine. ^_^

I can guarantee you Tolapai will be used in those things...for those of you who don't know, Tolapai is the codename for a combined PentiumM and North+ South Bridge all in one chip that runs 600Mhz-1.2Ghz and draws only 13W-22W.

Kinda retarded, you can already get a decent laptop for $350 with a proper screen and features. If they mass produced them, imagine how much costs they can cut.

Yes, but how many of them are running on a solid state harddrive?
and how many of them do you think will have 10-12 hour runtimes? (i mean, actual usage)

These are, to me, more fully featured PDA's than, "baby laptops", from what I've researched. They'll bridge the gap between PDA & "Real" computer.
