i have a Crucial M550 CT512M550SSD4 M.2 Type 2280 512GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) i got from newegg in my Z97 pro wifi i am replying to you on now. its really fast and works great. dont know if this helps but gives you another option.

is it still limited to 6Gb/s?

I cannot use Crucial for my Z97-A mobo since my M.2 interface only supports M.2 PCIe versue your MOBO Z97 Pro, which supports both SATA and PCIe hence you can use Crucial.

But I thought M.2 SATA interface is that same as other SSD drives like Samsung 840 Pro in terms of speed and if you want faster interface it is better to have M.2 PCIE mode interface but I maybe wrong.

I also wanted to jump on the xp941 but I would wait til March for new replacement of xp941 called SM951

for our Z97-A we would definitely need a PCIe x4 adapter to have advertised M.2 Speeds

I am going to buy this in the future for Z97-A since our MOBO only supporst M.2 slot to PCIe x2 speed instead of x4 below

hoping Samsung releases 1TB version of M.2 PCIe SSD

True we are limited to 10gbps, but that's a theoretical maximum of 1280mb/s, with real world overhead we're probably looking at 900-1000mb/s, about what the 256gb drive is capable of.

I'm looking to do this now because I want to put my 840 in my macbook and get something else for my PC. And then down the road get a 4x AIC because that's where I think the enthusiast PC market is headed (that and/or sata express). This M.2 thing is really intended for notebooks and I don't see it sticking around that long in our market segment. Sort of like when the pentium M was the best processor briefly before the Core came out.
