I have had the above sound card for 2-3 yrs now. Sound quality has been excellent both in games and music.

The big problem has been that @ twice a month the card is just gone/not 'seen' by DM. I've tried different drivers, disconnecting/re-connecting, different molex connectors from MB, blowing out dust from case... and then it will work. For a while.... then the same process over again...

Yesterday, I was so sick of having to do this that I pulled the card out of my comp and am now using onboard sound.
 
Has it been always like that? 2-3 years is not unheard of for hardware to fail already. Random problems like this may always also originate from the power supply so suspect both hardware.

Some devices are more sensitive to fluctuations in power than others.
 
Reseat the card, try different PCI slot, different cable to connect to PSU, install Asus Xonar Uni drivers.
