Asus Xonar DG /// Endles Problems

I bought a Asus Xonar DG to switch off of onboard sound. Installed the latest drivers. This card CONSTANTLY just flips out and makes horrific noises. Only solution is to restart as far as I know of.

Any ideas before I chunk this card in the trash?
 
Try a different slot
Try different drivers
See if it works in another computer
Return it instead of tossing it
 
Tried different slot and drivers. Don't have another computer to try it on. This card isn't worth the effort/shipping to return for what it cost.

Unless someone has an idea what this cards issue is I'm just going to wait for a xifi deal and let the xonar go the way of Asus motherboards is my book.
 
Turn off GX mode. That's usually the majority of problems.


If it still does it with GX mode off, wouldn't know then. But yes, GX mode is incredibly buggy. For games that do NOT use EAX, you don't need it whatsoever.

^ This. Killing GX and enabling the HF mode fixes almost all Xonar driver related problems. Asus chooses to enable the GX mode by default, even though its complete shit that barely works for some older EAX game and causes problems for pretty much everyone I have known that owns one of these cards. Asus doesn't appear to want to fix it since the problems have been happening for almost 2 years now, and for some reason they keep trying to pimp the GX feature instead of killing it or fixing it.
 
Not sure what is enabled and what isn't. The buttons are obscure.

Is the green button with white "GX" or "HF" text on or off?
 
Not sure if you are color blind, but it is noticeably green when enabled.

Like the others have mentioned, this solves 99.99% of all Xonar related issues. EAX emulation has always been a headache regardless of what manufacture has tried to re-engineer it.

Leave GX permanently off. Then listen to games/music/movies with HF on and off and stick with whatever one sounds the best to you.
 
Yeah I formatted recently and incorporated a lot of new hardware. The system was acting quirky. Sim City 4 was behaving the worst, never had issues with it, crashing every 20 minutes. I'll test it out on this and see if it still crashes. I was thinking it was just Sim City 4 hating my OS.
 
If disabling GX and enabling HF don't work don't throw the card away. Hold Asus accountable. They have decent customer server. They will most likley send you a replacement card with little fight.

Have you tried using the front panel audio connector? When you try this depending on your case you may need to unplug the front panel USB from your mobo to get clean sound. I had the same problem with the DG when I was testing one. Using the front port and unplugging the front usb was the only solution that worked, I even RMA'd the card and when I got it back it wasn't fixed.

Also make sure your PSU and mobo are properly grounded.
