Asus V9999 6800*gt*

Does anyone know what the deal with these cards are? I know the GE is on 12 pipelines, and the Ultra is on 16, but I have never heard of an Asus V9999 GT card. Odder still, the price I'm getting it for is lower than the Gamer's Edition. The difference between the two is about $100 CDN.

So, I'm stumped. I can't find any info online about this version of the card. Does anyone know if Asus is sticking to the proper naming, where a GT definitely has 16 pipelines, or if they're ignoring the norm and screwing around with the names?

Thanks.

According to Asus' website, there are only 2 cards based on the 6800 series.

V9999 Ultra Deluxe/2DT/256 - 6800 ultra
V9999 Gamers Edition/TD/256 - 6000 (non-ultra, non-gt)

I don't think there is a gt, maybe it was a typo (freudian slip) on the site you saw.

I thought that too, for awhile. But after searching the Asus site for God knows how long, I stumbled upon this --> http://www.asus.com/products/vga/v9999gt/overview.htm

But again, the overview doesn't tell me anything I want to know.

As for the store, it's a Canadian retailer. Look under ASUS --> http://www.etccomputer.ca/eShop/default.asp?categoryid=3

So Asus probably has 3 cards
6800 ===== V9999GE (Gamers Edition)
6800 Gt == V9999GT Deluxe
6800 Ultra = V9999ULTRA Deluxe

Just like every other manufacturer.

They're probably just taking a little longer delivering the 6800GT since they can sell the SAME exact card at a slighly higher clock for $500. They'll hold the few which dont make the speed cut in inventory until the sales slow down on the Ultra's.

BTW
6800 = 12 pipes
6800GT = 16 pipes, same exact card as the ultra = they OC to ultra speeds NO PROBLEM
6800 Ultra = 16 pipes

Nvidia's MSRP are $300, 400 & 500 respectively on those 3 cards.

Yes, yes, I know that. :p

Was just double-checking that it is in fact a 6800GT and not a 6800NU with a different name (due to the price difference).

Yeah it doesnt make sense. Asus has been selling their 6800 vanilla's for higher than the 6800GT's MSRP. And on that website, it looks like their 6800GT is much cheaper than the 6800 vanilla.

FYI:

6800 vanilla = 6800 (12 pipes)
6800 strawberry = 6800GT (16 pipes)
6800 chocolate fudge brownie = 6800 Ultra (16 pipes) :)

this says 256Mb http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=V9999GT Deluxe&langs=01

6800GT with 128MB of ram would probably be the ultimate budget card. Since very few things actually need that much and you would still have 16 pipes & serious horse power.

Has ASUS released their MSRP prices for the GT? I know their GE (vanilla) goes for $399. Odd that they would price the GT lower than that.

:confused:

The one I'm looking at is 256MB, though. Gah, leave it to ASUS to rename the core product. The box should state how many pipelines it's running, right?

Why in the hell doesn't ASUS clearly explain what card is what and with what specs. This is just ridiculous.

as far as i know asus only made 6800ultra and 256mb 6800nu but but they might have added 6800gt to the line since its the most popular card (slow asus..)
however 6800gt is not same exact card as the ultra. even tho most gt can o/c ultra level. cos ultra has diff/better hsf, mem, pcb, voltage, can o/c higher than gt.
256m asus 6800nu might be a great card if u can enable 4 extra pipes otherwise dont waste $$ n get normal gt.

Its a 6800(12 pipe,5 vertex shader) with 256mb of ddr3 and a big bundle and a web cam its also clocked aat gt speeds .Your much better off getting a gt unless u need a web cam and a bunch of free old games.
