Asus T3-P5G965 problems

I am building a new system for a customer of mine based on a Asus T3-P5G965 barebones system with an Core 2 Duo e6300 and Patriot Signature 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) memory.

I believe the motherboard in this system is based off a P5B and the barebones system itself does not have any directions at all related to the motherboard. I assembled everything and powered it up. Everything powered up but I did not get any kind of post beep or video. I then reseated the RAM, then pulled the heatsink off and found that I had missed taking off the rubber strips on the bottom of the heatsink included with the Asus T3. I then pulled out the CPU and made sure it was seated correctly then installed the heatsink with these rubber strips removed. I still cannot get it to post or even beep any codes to me. I have tried moving the RAM around to different slots, clearing the CMOS, pulling the battery, and pulling everything off it not required to post. I still can't get anything out of it other than it lighting up and spinning the fans. Is it possible that for the few moments it was powered up without proper contact of the heatsink that I cooked the CPU? Does it have any thermal protection built in to prevent this? This is my first Intel based system and I do not have any other mobos, processors, or RAM to try in it. Any help would be appreciated so I can troubleshoot this system and deliver it.
 
If its 965 and mATX, then its a P5B-VM. I have had that exact same problem with mine. Its the RAM, it seems to have weird problems with connectivity. However, if you can't fix it by messing with the ram, check if its voltage is less than 1.95v. I'd call ASUS, I had a defective board that did the exact same thing as yours is doing.
