In the directions for the bios update it says to not O/C your CPU during the update,,,if I have a QX6700 running at 3.2....what would happen if I used the Asus updater to update my system?

They say that because if your CPU is not completely stable during the BIOS update it could FUBAR your CMOS memory chip, thus rendering your motherboard completely useless until you got your chip re-flashed. The easy solution is to slow your CPU back down before the BIOS update. You may have to re-enter your OC selections in the new BIOS anyway (not sure about that).

I just upped to the 1305 version. IIRC, the old settings are NOT retained.

This upgrade really fixed the stability of the board for me. I was starting to worry if I had made a good choice going with the Striker Extreme, but I think the BIOS version that shipped with the board (1102) still had some pretty bad bugs, especially in handling memory. I am using the crucial ballistix DDR2 1066 and the board was having real trouble with them at default settings. All kinds of random POST failures. Took many tries to get an OS installed, then the OS was halting, etc.

I pulled all the memory out except 1 stick, upgraded to 1305, and the system is running stable so far for the last 2 days. I have been exercising it and seeing no problems. Tonight, I plan on putting the 4x1GB memory back in there (running 2x1GB now) and seeing if the system remains stable. Once I get a week or so of stability, then I'll start playing with memory timing, and some overclocking. Looking forward to seeing what this board/cpu/memory will do.

I'm running the SE with an E6850 with the thermalright ultra-120 extreme, the ballistix, PNY 8800 GTX, and two SATA barracudas in a RAID stripe. Case is stacker 830 w/ a silencer 750 quad PS.

I wouldn't flash the bios through the asus update, that's the windows based program. There is a much higher chance of things going wrong leaving you with a dead board waiting on another chip from asus.

I've always used floppies. Speaking of which I don't have one on my striker build, guess I have to try USB because I need to flash as well. Hope the latest bios fixes some more of the issues.

But I've never tried to flash a BIOS via USB before...
