I went into a computer shop today with a list of components researched for a new system. The system builder raised several issues and suggested I join this Forum to help get answers before he starts to build the system.
My key components:
Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition
Noctua NH-D14-2011 Dual Radiator Cooler with PWM fans, LGA2011 only
2 X Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH120A2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) in RAID 1 setup.
ASUS Sabertooth X79 TUF Motherboard - ATX, Socket R (LGA2011),
Intel i7 3930K processor $599.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492
Geil 16gb 1866mHz RAM $ 129.99
The 3 questions raised:
1) Will the Noctua fan work with the mobo?
2) Will the Geil RAM work with the mobo? (NewEgg describes the RAM differently: "G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB".)
3) My system builder says to avoid RAID 1 as it is tricky.
Since the system will be Windows 7 x64 Professional, can I use Windows 7 image backup of C: (the above Intel SSD) or else use a 3rd-party image backup of C: and so get by with only 1 SSD for my primary HD?
