ASUS ROG MARS GTX 760

ASUS has released the ROG MARS GTX 760, which touts two GTX 760 GPU's on a custom PCB with a modified DirectCU II cooler. Also told of by ASUS are a roughly 15% power draw reduction over SLI 760's, as well as special cooling, longevity, and overclocking characteristics. It's noted to be quite quiet by reviewers, as well. It's not a limited run as other ASUS custom cards have been, either. It produces results consistently superior to those of a Titan and often matching or outperforming the R9 290X and GTX 780 Ti in benchmarks, but has its weak spot, as graphics solutions like this have a tendency to possess.

It has been revealed to have an MSRP of £520 ($840), which is where it falters in relation to the 290X and the 780 Ti. A pair of 770's is cheaper and provides greater performance, and even a pair of ASUS' own 760's costs a lot less, leaving us to ponder what appeal this more compact solution has going for it other than being, well, compact. I guess it may appeal to those with a great fascination with dual-GPU cards or something. Or, the point may be to be able to SLI them with another MARS 760 and have what performs similarly to what four-way SLI 760's would be and is otherwise unattainable, but in my opinion that's sort of silly. If you're shelling out around $2000 or so for graphics cards, I'm sure there's better options for the price.

Maybe I'm not seeing something here. Let's discuss!

Ok, I'm totally stumped as to whom the card is marketed towards. Unless it's going to be sold at $520 in the US, I can't imagine any market for it. Enthusiasts who demands performance (cost not an issue) won't buy this card, enthusiasts who want "best performance for the buck" won't buy this card, and non-enthusiasts aren't going to spend $840 on a video card.

So.... who's left?
 
If it out performs the R9 290X and GTX 780 Ti, it could be the "best" "single" card, but it's mostly for enthusiasts.

I think the best "single" card out is the AMD 7990 (2 7970 ghz ed on one card) $600
 
I'd like to see a dual-780 card. A 790 so to speak. THAT would be worth a pretty penny, though.
 
Yeah it'd make a lot more sense if this card was the cost of 2- 760GTX, like $500, but I guess you are paying for the exclusiveness and the limited production.
 
I don't understand the appeal of this card...

Also, whatever happened to the Poseidon cards?

The exclusive nature, certainly. It isn't a limited run as other MARS products have been in the past, though.

People are saying that it's restricted by the amount of memory each of the GPU's has (2GB), which has me wondering if they managed to make it work in a system that unifies the memory. ASUS says it has 4GB of memory available, so I'd say it is.

Nah, they always claim the dual-chip cards have the total of both cards' memories even though we know it's hogwash.
 
This is what happens when you aren't selling enough 760 cards and now you find ways to get rid of them 2 at a time. lol
