There is an audible squeeling I can hear coming from the video card when I run anything that stresses the card. There is a noticeable stutter in the frame rate that goes along with the squeel.

Thoughts? How long does Asus warranty cards for? Any unorthodox repair methods like the laptop motherboard in the oven trick?

I took the stock heatsink off too see if anything was noticeably wrong but it all looks fine.

Coil whine along with performance issues could be indicative of a power supply issue if you have had this video card for a while. Reference 7970s are known to have coil whine that gets worse under high load, but it doesn't affect performance and usually goes away after a long period of use.

A good 24-48h burn-in is likely to take care of that. Try mining a couple days.

What would explain the frame rate stutter that goes along with the squeeling? Would a burn in really take care of it somehow? Furmark a bad idea?

I ran a couple benchmarks in a live Linux distro and one of them had some artifacts. I'm going to install Windows to a spare drive and try looping 3Dmark.

Artifacts are another matter. Could be a problem there if you are not overclocking. What are all your temps when running furmark?

And what psu?

I literally just opened a 550w Rosewill Capstone 80+ Gold PSU to bench test the video card. Ill have temps when I stress it in Windows.

Im not 100% sure if it's artifacting because the Linux benchmarks/stress tests I'm using have issues running in the first pace. I'm going to double check in Windows.

What should I use to put the heatsink back on? Mainly concerned with the pads that made contact with the ram.
