According to the manual for my Asus P5VD2-X board it doesnt support memory modules made up of 128mb chips or double sided X16 modules.

Most 1024mb sticks that I've come across are either of these, and I even checked the spec of a 'kingston' stick from the Asus qualified vendors list and this is a 16X double sided.

Bit of a contradiction I think......?.

Anyone shed any light on this?.

1024mb / 16 ICs = 64mb. This module is made with 64mb ICs. There are virtually no 1024mb modules out today that are made with 128mb ICs as it is still cost prohibitive.

I am not aware of a chipset limitation that would prohibit using by 16 DIMMs. Do you have a link to the online manual for this board?

EDIT: Is this your board? P5VD2 MX SE

Well, the ASUS sites are SLOW and I cannot view your manual online. However, your board is listed in our Corsair Memory Configurator and shows compatibility with DS 1024mb DIMMs in a 64 x 16 configuration.

Also, I worded my IC arrrangement wrong. The ICs listed for your system are 2 x 8 x 64, double sided, 8 ICs on a side, 64mb density per IC so you should be fine with anything our configurator recommends or anything on the ASUS QVL.

I wonder if the wording in the manual has been lost in translation somewhat?.
Thanks Mike.
