Personally I went for the asus because it seemed to succeed in a higher static contrast, being able to drive down to 0 brightness not loosing contrast, the joystick which is great for changing params, the inputs and usb as well as the lower price tag

As for me I just received an Asus PB248Q. But after hours in front of white background contents (internet, documents, mails..), my eyes are really tiredAnd I am just at 22 of brightness and 55 of contrast.

So there are a couple of practical problems I noticed after using this monitor for a few days.
1) To minimise the IPS glow you have to sit quite far away. Much further than I would like to sit for a panel of 24" size. At that distance it looks as big as a 22" sitting closer and smaller text becomes hard to read at that distance.
I like to have a monitor of this size just slightly further than arms distance, for proper immersion and that is the distance where my eyes converge and focus easiest, further or closer and i have to strain my eye muscles. So at this distance the IPS glow becomes more noticeable and distracting.
2) The monitor is just simply too damn bright at night, I tried to introduce some kind of bias lighting but unless I use my overhead room lighting with 3 incandescent bulbs 60W each, nothing can negate the too high brightness which cannot be further reduced below 0, which is already at 120 cd/m2. This is realistically a problem at night that causes me to experience eye fatigue and makes my eyes kinda water.
The only alternative trick to further lower the brightness is to use the contrast control, the problem with that is that it only reduces the brightness of the image, and not the backlight itself.
So now the actual image is darker, but the backlight bleed/IPS glow is still the same brightness no matter what the contrast setting, which makes it even more visible, and darker scenes lose all details and looks like a complete mess.
I'm gonna think about it another day or two, but I am likely to return it, maybe give the HP Z24I a run, who at least can be adequately dimmed.

I have some experience with the HP.
It does not support 1:1 pixel mapping. If you want to use 1080p for games, you will need to use graphics card emulation so that the signal to the monitor is 1920x1200. The HP will always stretch the image to fit the screen.
I have had two Z24i's. The first one had a dead pixel and dark lower corners. The second one had no dead pixels but dark lower corners... over 30% darker than the rest of the panel per a calibrated instrument. I'm following up with HP to figure out what the deal is with this monitor.
The brightness at 0% is too bright for a dark room. However, there is a "power save" feature with 5 levels of adjustment in the Management menu that shifts the entire brightness range down. So if 0% brightness isn't dark enough, set the Power Saving to 50% and the backlight will be quite dark. Not sure why they decided to do it this way, but the range is there. Lack of PWM is nice.
