Asus P5E-VM HDMI + E7300 overclock

I got a bunch of new parts and I'm trying some overclocking and stress testing to make sure everything is stable in case I have to RMA something.

Here's what I'm working with..
Asus P5E-VM HDMI (using latest 0604 BIOS)
Core 2 Duo E7300 wolfdale 45nm - 2.66GHz - 10x multiplier - SLAPB
Corsair 2x2GB DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Memory TWIN2X4096-6400C5
Thermalright HR-01 Plus CPU Cooler + fan

I'm not using the onboard video.

So far, without messing with the BIOS settings too much or even changing from the default voltages, I'm able to run stable at 3.0GHz by simply changing the FSB to 300.

I also can stably run with a 400MHz FSB if I lower the multiplier to 6x.

I tried to run at 10x and 333 FSB but prime95 failed after a few minutes in one of the cores with a rounding error or something.

When overclocking, the highest CPU core temps reported by SpeedFan under heavy load are 49-51C, so it doesn't seem like temperature is a problem. However I noticed that I get a severe voltage drop under load...

idle = 1.32v
load = 1.28v

...I think this is the reason I'm having issues overclocking.

Will the vdroop pencil mod help here?

According to the Intel SSPEC sheet, the max voltage for this CPU is 1.3625V. I've seen people talking about overclocking with 1.38v. Is this much necessary?

I'd like to go for 10x and 400 fsb, but I'm not really sure what BIOS settings have be set manually (instead of AUTO) other than FSB and CPU core voltage.
 
An update...

I did the pencil vdroop mod and now my voltage actually goes UP ever so slightly when under load. It does seem to be a lot more stable when overclocking now.

Regardless, the voltage settings in the BIOS still don't match what I see in CPU-Z and SpeedFan.

I've discovered that I get better overclocking results when I lower the multiplier to 9x instead of the default 10x for some reason. I think this is actually better for me since I can run my memory at the stock speed (400MHz).

I'm currently stability testing 3.6GHz...

BIOS settings:

CPU Ratio Setting: 9x (default is 10x)
FSB Frequency: 400 (default it AUTO)
CPU Voltage: 1.3750v (default is AUTO)

With this voltage setting, I get 1.360v in CPU-Z

For my testing, I've turned off SpeedStep EIST, C1E, and TM2.
