Asus P5B Problem

I have a problem with AHCI. When I enable it with my 400GB Samsung drive, Windows setup does not detect it. I used the f6 drivers from intel's site but still no dice. For some reason it won't show up at all!

What else do I have to do to make AHCI work?

I don't know if this belongs in the motherboard forum or disk storage forum, sorry.

Hmmm, that's strange. You 1) switched BIOS to ACHI then 2) installed Windows with F6 drivers, right?

Check which SATA port you have it connected to...only some of them are bootable so maybe Windows has that figured out somehow.

Try RAID, RAID has all AHCI specs, and you can run your disk in RAID without creating an array. That's how I set it up - and that way if you want to RAID later you can do so easily through the Intel RAID software.

Did you know that if you benchmark with ICH8 controller you will get SATA 150 performance even on IDE... For some reason you can't set it to ACHI on the ICH8 controllers or if it's already working ACHI by default.. I do not know if this is problomatic with all ICH8 but there's a work around.

When you move your hard drive over to JMB Raid controller you will get SATA 300 performance when you benchmark... Make sure you turn it to ACHI on bios for the JMB controller.

It doesn't matter what it says on your device manager... Mine says UDMA 2 after installing it on the JMB controller... And says UDMA 5 on the ICH8 controller..

Yep.

Plugged the cable to where it says SATA1.

How do you get into the ICH8 RAID menu?

@Marvelous
I was considering trying it on the JMB port, but didn't know if it'll boot off of that. I already setup Windows on the ICH8 one with IDE mode though, so I guess I'll give it a try next time this comp dies ;p

This is what I did... You don't need to install any drivers at all supposedly...

I installed windows using ICH8... And I just switch over the JMB... Set the bios to ACHI on JMB controller and your set...

Benchmark using "HDTach" and you will get SATA 300 performance...

If you set it to AHCI you know where it is - in BIOS it's IDE Configuration. Then "Configure SATA As [RAID] and make sure you turn the Bootrom on.

I haven't tried booting off the JMicron SATA yet, that seems weird it would give you SATA 3 and not the Intel one.
