I'm interested in upgrading from my current PC (in sig) to a ASUS P5B & Core 2 Duo e4300. Is this a pretty solid setup? Worth the upgrade? Will new games handle well? And no, I'm not planning to overclock too much. Thanks!

if you dont mind me slightly side-jacking your thread, i have a question about this same thing myself, i am also considering an e4300:

is there a significant reason to get a P5B-deluxe over the normal P5B?, i seem to remember the gigabyte DS3 being very popular a few months back, but from reading the forums the P5B-deluxe seems to be the new champion of mid-end c2d boards

the price difference between the regular and deluxe is rather high here, about 50 bucks or so

Keep in mind the 4400 is just a little more and its got a higher multiplier. That means even higher speeds as you raise the FSB.

The P5B deluxe has better chipset cooling than a regular P5B which should help when overclocking. If you use a wireless internet connection then for a few more bucks you can get the wifi edition. This way you won't have to use up one of the very limited number of usable PCI slots in the P5B-Deluxe.

The P5B Deluxe is very stable and an effortless overclocker when combined with a good power supply and some decent memory. On board sound is not really usable when fully overclocked. At least for me it wasn't and many other users as well.

The C2D doesn't become a great processor until you overclock it by 50% or so. It's simple and very reliable so don't be afraid to crank it up.

man, im quite a bit up on the fence on the mobo choice now, im down pretty much to the asus p5b deluxe wifi or a gigabyte 965p ds3

but i should have figured it out by my birthday, still have three weeks left

I have my P5B-Deluxe AP/Wifi and E4300 in the Intel C2D overclocking database at 3200mhz on air. Very stable, tons of options for connectivity (in drives, external devices via USB and firewire, eSATA, etc). The Deluxe is better if you're overclicking (out of the box), as it has heatpiped northbridge to aid in keeping the chipset cool while you ramp up the speed and voltage. I have no experience, personally, with any of the other P5B series boards. It is, to quote unclewebb, "a very efficient overclocking tool" If you have any questions about who/what/how to do with this combo, PM me.
