Hi,

I'm building a new pc and looking to buy the right components.

main purpose:3d graphics

looking at new motherboards i've picked the P5AD2-E premium (if anyone knows of anything intel based that might be better let me know :) , i've read that intel is better for 3d)

looking at asus website, i'm confused as to which is the right type of RAM for this motherboard.

I want to buy 1GB corsair, probably XMS2 to take advantage of dual channel. Can the P5AD2-E support DDR2 5400? or do i have to use DDR2 4300? I have phoned up suppliers who give me different responses to this question! Can anyone explain:

which ones i can use ?
wether this involves overclocking ?
which one would be the best (fastest & stable) for this motherboard?
any advantage to a matched pair?

thanks in advance,

james

yes.... tho I went with the Crucial Ballistix PC-5300

supports all the way up to DDR-711 speeds tho I have had the best results 1:1 with a lower CAS

hi thanks for reply :)

so will the ddr2 5400 will work? it runs at 675Mhz i think.
Does this mean it will run at a lower ddr2 600 (800 FSB)?
Can i overclock this to 1066FSB?
Is there much point in this or should i try and go for something lower and get similar results?

on komplett.co.uk 5400 is quite a lot cheaper than 4300 ddr2 ram.

I'm also planning on getting a 3.2 intel 640 and overclocking it to 3.4.

I am pretty new to all this as i havn't upgraded my pc for years (i have an old dual PIII)- if there are any relevant articles out there i'd love to know about them :)

thanks,

james

FSB of 800 can run DDR2-400, DDR2-600
using ASUS's CPU lock free to drop the multiplier down to 14 allows for
FSB 1066 and OC your 560J to 3.733 DDR2-533 and DDR2-711

further FSB OCing allows to get up to a rig near mine
FSB 1114 DDR2-556. at this high of a FSB I cannot run the faster ram ratio (my DDR2-660 or PC 5300 can not make DDR2-740+) So I run the 1:1 ratio and reduce my CAS timings.

I don't think that the 630 will do the CPU lock free trick. I think it has to be a 540 or 640 or higher. and the CPU Lock free trick is the only way to run at 1066, unless you shell out stupid $$$ for a extreme edition. after tinkering with 1066+ FSBs I'd still spend the extra money for the 540 or 640... or even one of the x60 series to run the high FSB.
