Asus mobo for E6600?

Hi. I've been looking at some different ASUS mobos for a new E6600 build, and can't decide on one. They seem to be relatively similar in price and features, but seem to have a few small differences here and there. I'm leaning towards the Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe, as it has most of the features I would like to have, and is a reasonable (but not cheap) price. I'm not planning on doing any serious o'cing, but it would be nice to have that option in the future. The SLI is also not a mandatory feature, but it is nice to have the flexibility in the future. Any thoughts? Thanks!
 
most guys are using the p5b boards for the 2mb l2 conroes, and the p5w dh for the 4mb l2 conroes. i dont have experience with the p5b's, but the p5w is a great board, at a high price. but not much higher than the a8n32-sli or the dfi experts when they came out. anyways a lot of guys spend as much for a sound card, and near twice as much for ram. i spent around $150 for an abit be6-2-v2 in 1999. prices go up, dollar value goes down. beez that way sometimes.
 
i cant speak to the site you are shopping on but most of the bigger sites like newegg and ZZF from all the reports I have seen shipping boards with a bios that supports the C2D chips

If for some reason you get a board with a old bios you can order a bios chip from ASUS and you just plug into the board
 
Most of the first boards are gone from major dealers so little chance of still getting one, I got mine from Frys Saturday with a more recent bios, let me tell you the P5W is well worth it and the features are endless.
 
Is the process of hard-updating the BIOS literally as simple as swapping out the chip?
 
yes. you pop out the old chip, pop in the new. no sweat. asus will send you new one for a 5 spot, sometimes if you bug them a little ("hey! it says right on the box that it supports core 2 duo, dammit!!" or something) they will send it for free. you could always pop out the original bios chip, put it in your old amd or intel board and flash the newer (501 and up i think) bios on that board. no sweat.
 
Sounds good. Thanks for the help decapitator, zeekle, and vanilla! Now the question becomes what type of ram would be good with that mobo...
