Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Asus doesn't make GPUs. The major GPU makers are ATI and nvidia. Asus, along with other companies such as Sapphire, Leadtek, Visiontek, Abit, etc. manufacture the card itself. This means they have control over the type of cooling used, software bundle, warranty, etc. You would not see any performance benefits from going with an ASUS video card if you have an ASUS mobo.
However, if you have a nvidia chipset (eg. nForce 2, nForce 3 250, etc.) and you bought a nvidia card, you would see a small benefit as opposed to using a nvidia card with say, a VIA chipset.

I usually love asus video cards, they usually have some nice cooling parts on them, for example look at the cooling on this 9800xt: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=14-121-500&DEPA=0
I would only selectively choose an asus if it had a better than oem cooling solution, this will help you save $$ on aftermarket cooling and give you a better OC. If your going to spend the $$ on an xtpe then you mine as well go all out and get the best one
