Anyone knows if 9900K will work properly with the said motherboard, which is based on the Z370 chipset (instead of the Z390)? Appreciate any inputs.

    TIA!

Looks like you may need it updated to the 1704 bios revision at minimum.

I think with these Maximus formula boards you can flash the bios even if the board won't post due to the CPU. Not 100% sure but... pretty sure. So it should be fine. Worst case OP might have to steal borrow a CPU

I have the latest BIOS, which is 1801. I read elsewhere, though, some said the Z370 holds back a portion of performance somehow, making it slower than any Z390 boards. I'm undecided now with that finding.

I think the only concern would be the power draw/provided, if its insufficient it'll be unable to achieve it's maximum overclock.

I'll just use the MXF and 8700K until I can afford the new MXIF with the 9900K. No need to play with headache.

I'm currently running this exact combo, but may upgrade to the 390 Dark here shortly once I see a few more reviews on it. It works as long as you have the bios updated; I'm not sure as I'm still playing with it, but I think I have a bum 9900, as the stable overclock on a overkill custom loop is mild (4.8 all), and I cannot get xmp (even after pumping more voltage I am comfortable with into the memory, vsa and vccio) to work on the 9900 at all when it worked without any problems on my 8700 just fine. My memory max after bumping up the relevant voltages I can get is 2800 at voltages I could get 4k with on with my 8700. My next weekend in 2 days I'll be reseating the cpu and trying again, if any improvement I'll let you know, as I don't know if it is a weak cpu or poor mobo compatibility.

No joy, reseated the 9900 and no improvement, it is either a horribly bad chip or bad compatibility. I can't figure out why it barely hits above jedec standards(2666) with looser timings and higher voltage than should be needed(can't get my ram higher than 2800mhz no matter what I try).

Awww....just get a cheap Z390 board to use for the time being until you can afford the MXIF.

I had the same weird results as you with that exact MB + CPU combo. Swapped out the board for a new MXIF and all the problems and weirdness went away. My take is the 9900K can work in a Z370 board at stock clocks, but if you want to push it at all, you need a Z390 board and its better power delivery.

Congrats on your new Combo! I went with 9900K/AORUS Pro Wifi instead due to Asus downgrading their 12+1 Phase to a 4-Phase on the new MXIF (and a few other boards). But the 9900K runs like a sun even when using an H100 V2! Temp soars past the 100s!!! That is when running Prime95, but I don't think any programs will stress the CPU to such degree so I'm still happy with it.
