i recently build a new PC with an Asus Maximus Formula motherboard but im having problems overclocking.

my specs are as follows:
Asus Maximus Formula
C2D E6420
Corsair 620W PSU
and ive tried both 2x1GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 @ 2.2v and 2x1GB OCZ Platinum @ 1.8v up to 2.1v with no luck.

the PC will not even post once the FSB hits ~300, ive tried setting the CPU Vcore from the stock 1.35v up to 1.45v, ive run my RAM at their rated volts, ive changed the FSB Strap hoping that would help (and it didn't) ive changed the FSB : DRAM ratios from 1:1 to everything else imaginable and relaxed timings and still have not been able to get this to post with an overclock.

running the most up to date BIOS straight off of the ASUS site.

anyone have any settings they recommend i should try?

thank you good sir, i was reading another thread about the Maximus Formula on xtremesystems and im embarrassed to say i totally missed the thread you linked. ill give their settings a shot and see how it goes.

alright, tried the general settings on the main page you linked me to and they didnt work, so i did some reading and looked at the settings other dual core users were using, printed them out and tried them and still nothing. the computer turns on, doesnt post or beep, the GPU fan spins up to 100% and the computer just sits there at a black screen. i think theres something wrong with my motherboard.

ok what does the lcd show after you boot up? if gets stuck on "det dram" then you have a problem with ram, i saw those mobos be very picky about certain memory sticks, specially corsairs and high density ones in 4gb kits

yeah, gets stuck at "det dram", i tried each OC with both my 2 x 1GB Corsair Dominator kit and my 2 x 1GB OCZ Platinum kit.

ya i've seen that happen a lot, there is a whole bunch of threads about, as a temp fix you can try unplugging the power and reseating the ram modules.

Also heres some modules that worked flawlessly for me

ocz reapers
gskill hz series
buffalo firestix

but when i tried my corsair 4gb kit don't remember model but it was xms with dhx heatspreaders it would get stuck on "det dram" every few hours

well, reseating the RAM doesnt work for me, still get boot issues. ill wait till my brother goes to work and steal his gskill RAM kit and see if that works

with some help from another thread i dropped my multiplier from 8x to 7x and was able to boot into windows at 7x multi, 390FSB but it wouldnt post when i tried 400FSB. im going to go play with a few settings and see if i can't get this thing to go a little higher, shooting for the 2.8GHz OC i had on my 680i.

alright, ran orthos while i was sleeping, 10 hours stable at 7x 390 FSB. my northbridge was at 59°C, something i should be worried about? maybe i dig up one of my old Antec Spot Cool fans and put that over the northbridge.

Set transaction booster to Disabled and the Relaxed setting below that to 0. If you are going to push past 400 FSB then set it at 1. This relaxes the TRD settings that are too tight on this board. Those 2 settings are probably the most crucial in getting the FSB up on this board.

What temp is your SB idle at? I have the same board and am having issues with idle temps with a stock bios.

SB is 43c
NB is 41c

These reading s are from Probe II but i cant find another program to get SB & NB readings.

Ran a oc to 3.05 with a multiplier of 9.
After 2 hours sytem froze and during restart bios noted a heat issue with SB.
