Asus Integrated GPU Frustrations

Just upgraded to the Asus P8C WS with Intel Xeon E3-1275 (3.5 GHz) CPU. I was running three XFX Radeon 6570 GPUs prior to this new motherboard/processor.

Here's the catch: the motherboard will not enable the XFX GPUs unless a monitor is plugged into the onboard GPU port. If the three monitors are plugged into the three GPUs, no boot. If the three monitors are plugged into the three GPUs and another monitor is plugged into the onboard DVI connector, the system boots!

Anyone have any ideas? This is frustrating me to no end...
 
Very strange.

Have you enabled the PCIe to be the primary display in the BIOS?

Contact Asus tech support if you cant figure it out, they answer quickly and are generally pretty knowledgeable.

I've tried to set the primary GPU to the PCIe bus, but it reverts back to "default" after a reboot.

BIOS is updated to the latest version and I just got off the phone with them. Since it's a server board, the lady told me to call back tomorrow at 11am, since their department is gone for the day.

Also, have you tried another video card?

Possibly its just that model of video card that has weird compatibility issues with that motherboard.

Yep, it appears to be something related to the motherboard/video card combination. I swapped out the graphics cards for a set of three nVidia 7950GTs and no problems. I also tried it with a set of three nVidia GTS 250s and again no issues. It looks to be either a problem with AMD as a whole (unlikely), or just something with this specific model GPU. Too bad, really. The GPUs are nice and work great, just not on this motherboard.

Also, for anyone coming across this post later, know that this board can be quite picky. Kingston model KVR16R11D4K4/32 (32GB, DDR3-1600, ECC) is a no-go with this board, although Kingston model KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G (8GB, DDR3-1333, ECC) does work. At least, that is what I have discovered with my board.
