Asus Commando @ NewEgg

$279.99 + 3 Business Day Shipping $6.94

= too much for me.

I vowed not to waste that much money on a motherboard again after buying an Asus P5WD2- E Premium (for that exact same price), using it for a few months, then realizing it wasn't compatible with Core2.

I was pissed! You can overclock just as much with a nice motherboard for 1/2 the price. Motherboards have been changing too much lately.

Each new CPU has needed a new motherboard, and they've been changing standards fairly quickly too.
ddr -> ddr2 -> ddr3 coming soon
pcie --> pcie 2.0 coming soon
each new type of CPU or process has required updates.
90nm -> 65nm required new mobos (at least for Intel) (955 --> 975)
single core to dual core required new mobos (915/925 -> 945/955)
Pentium D -> Core 2 required new mobos

And when those changes happen all the sudden your almost $300 motherboard is worth about 1/2 of its original value!

P5B-E or DS3 both can max out most CPU's no problem.

I agree, buy a new motherboard with each major chip change; therefore, shop for the best bargain.

Motherboard prices are really getting insane. Alot of the features on these high-end motherboards are features that many people will never use.

yea i paid $50 less for my p5w dh deluxe last may and i think its a better board wth more features. the 965 chipset is supposed to be a "cheaper alternative" to the 975 boards, and this board is more expensive than just about any 975 board except for the 2 asus p5w server boards. and you can get one of them for the same price now. if i was in the market for a new mainboard i would just about have to go with the asus 650i sli board. has pretty much the same features (2 x 8 lane pcie slots), and has official sli. also overclocks great, at least as good as the commando. the dfi rd600 board is cheaper even. but i am not bored with my evga yet, so i will wait and see what kind of 680i board dfi comes up with.
