Asus ATI 4850 display problem on DVI

Anyone have any ideas on this?

I have the asus ATI 4850 video card - 2 monitors connected via DVI
one is a 19 the other a 24.
I notice the 24 flashes/glitches quite a bit.
it's always in response to something I am doing - ie opening a webpage or moving a window or something - the even can take place on either montor, but the flash, momentaty line etc.. are always on the 24".

I am running Vista 64bit using the asus drivers (I think these are ATI 8.6)

It really appears to be a driver issue as it only happens when I do things in the OS, and any screen noise only affects the image from the PC on my monitor - if I bring up the monitors menu, that's stable as a rock.

Wondering if there's a fix for this ati card, or if I should consider switching over to an Nvidia 260 card instead.

I'll have to give that a try - I was looking at the release notes and it looks like they fixed quite a bit.
gotta be driver related - I told the ATI driver to swap which display it considers display #1 and now the other monitor has the problem. Only a driver could do that?

update-
I installed 8.8 a few weeks back and it blue screened my PC.
uninstalled and went back to the asus (8.6) drivers - somewhat stable but still some problems.
I had read on the web somewhere that someone had a similar problem, and was able to get around it by uninstalling the ati CCC, and just installing the driver.

Tonight I noticed new 8.9 drivers are out so I uninstalled everything video related - asus 8.6 driver, the asus fan utility the gamer osd etc..

installed just the 8.9 driver and rebooted and - stable - no flashing - no crashing (knock on wood!)
I then installed the asus fan utility "smartdoctor" ver 5.25 these two are working together just fine.

So it appears that the system is stable (with both monitors running DVI)
I may try and uninstall the 8.9 driver and try the whole 8.9 CCC suite in a few days- or I may not! it's nice having a stable system right now!
