Asus A8V and usb issues XP & Vista

Hi all

i just bought a used system off a buddy at work and i wanted to use it to play with vista beta 2 with a dual boot xp. now the system was all put together i just had to plug it in and go, so i installed vista beta 2 and everything seem to be working ok, until after a few reboots i would lose usb mouse and kb functions, like they were just not there. i could unplug them each and plug them back in and the would start working again. the next thing to start happening was that i would be surfing around in vista and my ouse would quit responding and the system would appear to freeze. and i would have to restart. i installed the 5 in 1 drivers made sure everything is seated and plugged in, i just don't get it. so thinking it was vista i wiped the drive and installed xp, fully updated, with all the system drivers and it has done it twice. it has been along time since i had a amd/via system so is there something i am just not aware of, tip trick? order of installation?
