Asus A8N-SLI Ram problem and Chipset

Hello,

Well, I built my computer about 4 months ago. I have 4 gig of Kingston HyperX DDR400 ram in the system. All was running fine tell about 2 weeks ago. My computer started to beep after I was doing a defrag. It seem to reboot and hang with nothing on the screen. Just beeping. With a slight pause inbetween beeps.
I took out the 4 sticks of RAM and installed one stick. It works with just one stick in and it onlys says 512 of RAM. I talked with Kingston and they said it was a module on the RAM. OK. So, I had them send me 4 sticks of BRAND NEW RAM and low and behold, same problem.
Well, I thought maybe it is my BIOS. I have Version 1002. But, Asus website says to install the chipset first. (30 meg .rar file). I downloaded the chipset but could'nt find any directions on how to update the chipset. The document links on Asus website are dead. Could someone help me out and lead me in the right direction. Is the BIOS my problem. I also read on ASUS website that my RAM is not compatable with this moboard. But, it worked for 4 months. If I go to KINGSTON website it says that the RAM will work in this board. Confused. So, here I sit with 1 stick of RAM (I gig) in my PC, which only reads 512k.
Also, I read somewhere where someone used NForce4 drivers. Will they work with this board?
Please help.
thanks
Greg

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 64 FX-53
2 Geforce 6800 Series
4 gig of Kinston HyperX DDR 400 (Not working)
Vaporchill
PC power and cooling power supply

it has a nforce4 northbridge.. so you might want to install the nf4 driver..

hope that works for you..

Not worrying about what Windows says about your RAM at the moment, what does your BIOS say about you RAM? Also, have you tried that one stick in just one slot, or all the slots? Could be the slot, could be the memory controller on your processor. If the RAM still gets weird regardless of the slot, try reseating the processor. One errant speck of dust could be joining two pins associated with the memory controller in the socket and the thing's flipping out.

Thanks for the quick replys.
If I use the Nforce drivers do I have to update the chipset drivers?
How do you update the chipset drivers?
The manual links are dead on Asus website!
thanks

The nForce drivers ARE the chipset drivers. You've got an nForce4-SLI board. :) However, that's not going to change your memory problems if they're a hardware issue, since the drivers will only affect Windows. Like I said, have you tried that stick in just one slot or all the slots?

Yep, I've tried everything. Changing sticks of my Kingstion Ram. When using one DDR DIMM module you have to install into DIMM_B1 slot only. I've tried every stick I have in that one slot. Same problem. When I put 2 sticks in, the computer won't even post.
Even when my computer post, it says 512k of RAM, with one stick in.
Totally confused here.
Help!

Screw the "DIMM_B1" rule temporarilly and try one stick alone in all the other slots.

Well, I updated my BIOS and my chipset.
NO LUCK!!!
Maybe my RAM is not compatable with the A8N-SLI.
How it worked for the first 4 months, I don't know.
My RAM is not listed in the manual of the moboard.
I went to the Asus website and my RAM is not listed.
I went to the Kingston website and my RAM is not listed.
But, when I spoke with someone at Kingston they said my RAM
would work with that moboard.
I am totally confused.
I know, I read in the moboard manual that the A8N-SLI doesn't support
double-sided x16 memory chips. I believe that mine are double sided.
It also says that it doesn't support 128mb memory chips.

My RAM is KINGSTON HyperX KHX3200AK2/1G
I have 4 sticks.

ANYONE LOOKING TO BUY/TRADE SOME RAM????

I think I will buy a gig stick that is listed in the manual and try that!
Maybe two 512's.

I visited Kingston and looked up the memory for your board. IT IS::
KVR400X64C3AK2/512

In the 512 Kit this is the only memory they say is for your mobol

How long have you had this ram? I suggest going to the mfg website and seeing what memory does work in your board. I have an Abit AV8 and a must for memory is TCCD, or TCC5, nothing else works period. See which memory is for your board, if you have had it less than 30 days send it back and exchange it for what your board uses.

Well, here I am again.
I went to the KINGSTON website and put my RAM model number
in and it looks like it is ONLY compatable with 2 systems.
Arrrggggg.

shuttle XPC P series P 2500g
shuttle XPC P series P 8100g

These are form factor systems.

This has to be my problem.
I am hoping...
Any thoughts!

You are correct::I visited Kingston and looked up your board. It shows only one memory for the board you have.

KVR400X64C3AK2/512

Patriot XBL is the memory for your system. Same as for my system.
TCCD chips on BrainPower PCB's
If you are gonna have to buy memory, this Patriot is what I suggest. 2x512 sticks are less than $160 at the Egg

This is the part # for the Kingston Memory for your system.
You will be amazed when you install this memory.
Or anyother brand that is the same chips.

So, what about the memory I have now?
It says on the KINGSTON website that it is only compatable with
these two systems.

shuttle XPC P series P 2500g
shuttle XPC P series P 8100g

Does that mean it won't work in any other system.

What the heck am I suppose to do with 4 gigs of this stuff?
Thats over $300 worth of RAM. (Go buy a shuttle XPC)
I don't understand how I used it for 4 months with no problems.
Very confused.

Again, anyone want to buy/trade some RAM

Thanks for the replys!!

I don't know what chips are in the sticks you have.
Did you have this installed in a system before?

I do know what will work in your system.
Abit is very picky on memory.
