Recently I purchased the above mentioned motherboard along with two Seagate Barracuda sata hdd's, 2gb ram (corsair xms pc3200) and a 16x liteon dvdrw.

I've been having problems with it right out of the box (nvraid, etc) and I resolved most of it... Or so I thought.

Now that I got it running with nvraid and whatnot, I'm having trouble installing anything from a cd.

Random files appear to be corrupt, but actually aren't corrupt on the cd.

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me, as I'm about ready to sledgehammer everything.

(Correct, quake4 won't install correctly)

Thanks for reading.

Typically, the installer gives me an error saying a certain file can't be read or opened.

I've gotten this from World of Warcraft as well.

my first guess would be to make sure your mem isn' bad by running something like prime95 or memtest86. then I might look to data cables

I've tried the memory test by Microsoft and another company and let both run for 8 hours straight with no problems. I've also tried using several ide cables with the same results.

I tried most of the basic troubleshooting... But I don't know what else to do.

I had this issue with my previous computer and my new computer which also uses an A8N SLI, so I don't believe my issue was related to the motherboard in any way. I had a DVD ROM and then a CD-RW drive. When installing Windows or any large game or something of that nature I could NOT install using the DVD ROM, only the CD drive. Otherwise, I received the same errors as you are; file XXX.XX is corrupt, file XXX.XX can not be read from the drive, Couldn't copy file XXX.XX , etc etc...

I've tried with two liteon dvdrw's and a plextor cdrw...

I'll dig my old cdrom drive out of the basement and see if that helps.

Thanks for the information.

all of my A8N-SLi issues went away when i changed to the silicon image controller and disabled the NVRaid controller. i had all kinds of data corruption problems and couldnt even get winxp to install properly until i disabled it. also.... make sure you do NOT install the nvidia IDE drivers. use the MS ones that install by default. many people have reported issues with those drivers.

What the hell? Man this used to be a problem on nForce 2 boards, I cannot imagine it is still true today, that's just pathetic.

Is that included in the regular box for the a8n? I didn't buy the deluxe version...

Yeah, I just checked the Asus website and the Silicon controller is only available on the premium and deluxe A8N motherboards.

*sigh*

Oh well.

Seems to work using an old cdrom on ONE sata drive, but not in raid0.

Ugh.

I ‘have’ a similar problem with corrupt files with my A8N SLI Premium. Every time I download something on the Nforce PCIe NIC it corrupts it! Doesn’t matter what it is when I try to download a program it will say its corrupt and I need to try again but when I unplug the cable and plug it into the Marvell controller it works perfectly. What’s even stranger is if I have my cable plugged into the Marvell NIC, reboot the computer, then unplug it and plug it back into the Nforce NIC it will BSOD as soon at it clicks into the RJ-45 port. It’s some kind of IRQ conflict I think. I don’t think the Nfroce NIC likes sharing IRQ 20 with my GeForce 7800GTX but I can’t find a way to change the IRQ. Needless to say im stuck using the Marvell NIC, which in ASUS’s infinite wisdom put on the PCI bus (and the Silicone RAID controller as well!) instead of the PCIe bus. I guess its no big deal since all I use it for is my DSL internet connection. I wouldn’t be so happy if I was constantly transferring files on a gigabit lan. It’s an ok board but it could be better.

Yeah it's an IRQ problem between the 2 nic's. I don't have a link but if you search asus's forum you'll find the solution is to disable one of the nic's in the bios (use the marvell, disable the NV nic one of them said). I had this BSOD problem a few weeks ago and that was why.

What bios does your board have? Have you updated the chipset drivers? (any bios 1007+ requires the update chipset drivers from asus)

Have you upgraded the bios to 1012 and use the nvidia 6.65 chipset drivers from asus site?

I've tried both recent releases for the bios... 1012 and 1013beta and it doesn't seem to work.

I've also tried chipset drivers 6.65, 6.66, and 6.67 (found on another site, not nvidia.)

Still trying numerous things.
