ASUS a reliable video card?

I find it hard to believe that ASUS would put DDR RAM on such a high end-ish board.

im sure asus uses gddr3 unless they have some super highspeed ddr (980MHz)

Read THIS review. The Asus is significantly slower than the reference Sapphire design. They're up to something fishy.

FanATIc: That could be a newegg screw up.

When I was browsing plain 6600 cards, one of them
was listed as having gddr3, but googling it turned
up another story.

Look, im just trying to inform ya, its not GDDR3. They do it on many of their cards. It is NOT a typo.

http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=Extreme AX800XL/2DTV&langs=09

theres asus's official specs off their website, plus newegg, plus, do you really want me to go on? They use DDR on many many of their cards that they can get away with it on.

For example, heres official specs from their X850XT PE
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=AX850XT PE/HTVD&langs=09

no such thing as DDR that fast so they had to use GDDR3. As you can see, it says "DDR3"

Now heres a vanilla 6800, Asus specs again;
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=Extreme N6800&langs=09

DDR, because they can.

Take my word for it, do not second guess me on this.

wow way to dramatize a review, it said 2-3 percent slower than the Sapphire.....wow thats significantly alright  Asus has more layers of pcb than any other card manfer, they have longer lasting cooling options, get a sapphire, let someone else get the asus, then in a year lets see who still is useing the same cooling hsf.......asus takes the cake with their cooling options

and that review said Asus card overclocks better than the sapphire on the core.......Korruption, please next time, dont add drama......read the whole review.......
and yes, its a Newegg problem about not saying the gddr3 memeory.......they fubr stuff up a lot.......

Ok, so what your telling me is DDR3 is only 2-3pct faster than DDR? because the sapphire seems to have ddr3, and it only beat the asus by 2-3pct in those benchies.......eaither Asus is lazy and never put ddr3, or they have a cheaper/as good option for their video cards

nope the card they sent the reviewer is using GDDR3, they even state it in the article. Reference designs can change. Any good reviewer will tell you at the end "this is may not reflect actual launch product." What that card is on newegg and listed on their site is, using DDR1.

Now, if you simply look at the comparison posted by the intial question, its like a difference of 5 dollars between the Asus X800XL which uses DDR and the Sapphire X800XL which uses GDDR3.

This is quite fucking pointless to go on arguing is it not? You obviously dont want to be convinced so why dont you buy the card yourself and find out, i made the mistake last year and i wont again. I am strongly against any Asus videocards and thats how i feel. They use crappier components, and tend to downclock alot and manage to keep a near retail or over retail price tag. That is a very shady business.

I'v been as clear as crystal on my point, so im done here.

By them using DDR1 or DDR5 billion........you cant justify them being a bad man'fer for video cards, you had a bad experince cause you found out they use DDR1? did the card work? did it do what you wanted? you cant ever put a card in your computer, play games all day, and tell which uses ddr3 and ddr1, so serriously what are you complaining about? and i dont care about reviews, its all the same crap benchmarks are lame, so me some real world experince on servers hosted by amatuers.......

your argument holds no weight......ddr1 or ddr3, MAYBE, just maybe you got a new card from Asus and they were useing ddr1 still for the R420 core? now maybe they are useing ddr3.......ill send them an e mail about it and post back.....untill then, stop dramatizeing card manu'fers........

i had an asus x800 xt pe and a sapphire x800 xt pe. I sold my sapphire because it wasn't a known brand like asus was. I ended up finding the asus was SIGNIFICANTLY slower than the sapphire. I ended up selling the asus and bought an x850 xt sapphire

thats because Asus declocks theres back a bit, thats a known fact, but they overclock better than sapphire, thats also a known fact............asus heatsink fans last longer than sapphires as well, thats also a known fact

Uhm, evidence? I don't think asus hsf, even if better quality, can offset the fact that it uses a slower memory. As for OC, there's no guarantee, on average, all brands will oc the same anyways

ask around to Asus owners, hell im sure if you google, youll find reviews on their cooling sulitions and they will be way up there......they use a up to 10 layers pcb for their video cards, and im still googling to find out more.......trah a manu'fer if you want, cause you had a bad experince, that dosent mean they dont make good cards they make good cards and motherboards as well

bit of reading material i guess http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=1528

im done tho, not turning this into another flame war of whos better or whos worse, Sapphire is what i am running now, i dont perfer their hsf as ive had to change it 3 times from ones they sent, but thats just me, its a rock solid card.........

I don't know about you, but most default thermal solutions aren't very good, even the fancy ones from Asus. Anybody who's willing to tinker with their hardware should consider an upgrade to a third-party thermal solution (though always at the risk of voiding one's warranty).

FYI: Newegg is wrong often. A 6800nu I'm looking at is listed as having a 128-bit bus width, where in fact eVGA doesn't even make a PCI-e 6800 w/ 128-bit memory bus width...

They are reliable, but I will never use an Asus product, some of the marketing things they do (weird namings on purpose) really irk me.

Well, I must say that their 6800nu with 256mb GDDR3 selling at MSRP of $400 is strange. 12 pipes too, so it's not even a GT...
